Los Angeles, CA
end was founded by Gaurav Nanda, a designer and entrepreneur. Gaurav always loved to create. As a kid growing up in the suburbs of Detroit, Gaurav would find himself building something, joining something, or bending something, whether it be constructing a teepee, painting with oils, or throwing pots. Once he made a screen printing machine, where he built a frame, stencil, and got a squeegee to pass paint thru. It was to mark the beginning of his t-shirt printing business. Needless to say, he gave it up for bigger and better things. Today Gaurav is doing the same thing. He is creating.
Gaurav spent much of his corporate life designing cars, and later was a part of the design and conception of Clocky, the alarm clock that runs away beeping. He currently lives in Los Angeles
If Gaurav Nanda's name sounds familiar to you, it's probably because you remember his sister, Gauri Nanda, creator of Clocky — the alarm clock that jumps and rolls until you get out of bed. A talent for industrial design apparently runs in the family.
Bend Seating is a contemporary take on modern wire chair production. It's a little more angular and oblique than the classic Bertoia Chair — while Bertoia's goal was to create a chair "mainly made of air, like sculpture," these wire seats seem like they could have been designed by algorithm. Neon orange finishes reinforce the machine aesthetic and "pure geometry" of the form.
The Bend Seating Collection is currently available online for $400 - $450 via their webshop, where seat cushions can be also be found for an additional $50.
