Hrm, so this post made me wonder where I could get a planter like the one above (long and wall mounted), but not cloth - perhaps clear glass (held up by some pretty iron maybe?) or some other solid material... thoughts?
Ikea, for example, has lots of things that you can use (specially from the kitchen area) for that purpose: rails, hooks, plastic/ceramic containers... :)
you could do one of those metal ikea hanging rails with the ceramic containers that hook in maybe? i like the way those look to keep a horizontal collage of plants, and they're versatile in any space for planting/organization if you don't love it in the bathroom after a while.
(you could also get an assortment of glass containers and plant them with succulents, then set those on an iron or wooden shelf, or wire-wrap the tops like mason jar lights and hang them from hooks across the wall, maybe even interspersed with lights?)
For the more sunny bathrooms you can always grow a little bit of Parsley or Mint to add to your morning/evening routine as those both freshen breath and clean teeth, as well as in the kitchen and your tea.
My bathroom has one small, frosted-glass window that faces south and is literally inside the shower. All of these plants are more than a few feet from said window, and so I would consider it low light--yet they all thrive with minimal care:
2 kinds of bromeliads, 'Lemon-Lime' draceana, 'Limelight' draceana, 1 draceana marginata with a dark edge to the leaf, ZZ plant, and a chartreuse-colored philodendron.
I also have two staghorn ferns that I'm working on mounting to a flat surface so I can hang them from the top rail of my sliding shower door, facing the window. (Hoping to distract myself from the UGLY swan design on said doors!)
Oh, and to answer a question above, lots of home design stores have rectangular glass vases at reasonable prices. If you grow the right plants and/or are careful about watering, you could just use those on a shelf to the same effect, I think.
Pics or it didn't happen!

I have 5 tlllansia in my bathroom, along with a peace lily, and an orchid, and all are doing well :) Thanks for this list!
I had an old milk bottle with a few stalks of bamboo in my bathroom for a while - it looked beautiful!
Ha ha this is three years old!
I've been thrilled with how well orchids do in my bathroom. A really easy way to cheer put the room, the last one bloomed for over 6 months (leaves are still doing great but not green thumb to know if/when it"ll get another flowering stem - so I just bought another one).
What if your bathroom has no light? We have no windows, and it's tucked at the end of a dark hallway.
I'd love to have a plant or two, but it seems unlikely. Suggestions?
Philodendrums are fairly tolerant of low light. Another thought is to have two of the same plants, and rotate them between the bathroom and somewhere else that has some light. During the warmer seasons, bring the plants outside.
