A long and narrow bedroom can be a nightmare for furniture arrangement. A great way to utilize the space is by placing the bed on a shorter wall, leaving room for furniture at the foot of the bed. Maybe even a sofa!
I've always wanted a bench at the foot of my bed, but haven't found the right one for the right price yet. I do, however, have a spare sofa that is small enough to fit perfectly at the foot of the bed. These images have me considering different options of bed and "bench" combinations.
What's at the foot of your bed?

nothing! as i need to go around the bed from my side to get to a bathroom! & i don't want to stumble on anything!
a blanket chest!
Nothing...no room!
Nothing currently, but I want to get a narrow bench so that my throw pillows don't end up on the floor every night.
My husband's sock and underwear pile.
Nothing. Well, occasionally the ironing board.
A great big cushy ottoman with a sheepskin on it. :-) nice cozy dog bed/step up to the human bed.
I can only dream of a bedroom large enough for a cozy little loveseat or a bench at the foot of the bed...
...as it is now, it's the blanket that got kicked off in the night and the front of the dresser less than 2' away.
Ditto on my husband's sock and underwear pile! No room for a piece of furniture there, unfortunately, but I've always dreamed of having a bench.
A footboard!
The sofas pictured here don't work. It would be cozier if they are facing the bed or angled toward the bed with a little side table & lamp maybe?
A blue plastic litter box, filled with shredded paper, for my two chihuahua is at the foot of my bed.
And I, too, can only dream of having a reading nook in my BR. The only thing that fits is the king Ikea malm bed and the litterbox and food and water bowls for the chihuahuas.
A blanket chest.
the wall.
I have this neat antique chinese bench with a marble top I bought at an ABC carpet warehouse sale about 10 years ago for $100. It has been with me in 3 apartments and I always struggled to find a place for it. Our house is the first time I have room for anything at the end of the bed.
I don't really like the sofas in the pictures-I think what ever is there should be lower than the bed.
A burgundy chesterfield I found through Craigslist. One of those perfect finds.
My cats.
An old chest that holds most of the bed linens.
We have a desk at the foot of our bed. And it holds our 27" imac, which we can just flip around at night for movie and Netflix viewing.
A bench. The bed's too high for my cat's short little legs.
Nothing or I wouldn't be able to get into my dresser.
At the moment, yes a couch! I have a 2 room apartment. One room is bedroom/sitting room. The other is kitchen/ office-studio. (I work from home). I had a bed for my chihuahua, but she prefers on the furniture so I got rid of it. Space is at a premium here :)
Nothing. I own a bed similar to that one and I have curtains hanging from it.
"That one" being the bed in the first image
Two cat carriers butted up against each other cleverly disguised with blankets draping over them. People think it is a long ottoman and go to sit on them only to discover it is not an ottoman.
My dog's bed.
a chaise that I really don't have room for, but is there nonetheless. It worked well with the last two places I lived, but not here. For some reason I can't part with it. It *is* a useful surface to pile things on....
Currently, there is a really sturdy bench with a leather cushion that we found in an alley. It's not really my style, but it matched our old bedframe nicely. However, upon moving, we bought a new bed. So I'm thinking of swapping it out for an old black chest I just found. It's giant, beat up, and antique. Complete with with the wooden interior covered in worn and torn Victorian wallpaper. I think it would look really neat on the old hardwood floor in there...
The wall, unfortunately. :( I've always wanted to have a nice bench at the foot of my bed, but every apartment I've ever lived in, the head and foot of my bed touch both walls. Damn those itty, bitty "closet" bedrooms. ;)
My bookshelf. Which includes very few books! At the moment, I'm using it as a kind of extra dressing area, with sweaters, perfume, the tv, and baskets with assorted ugly stuff.
I have a bed from the 40s with this ornate footboard I don't want to cover up (or damage), so there is nothing there but rug and walking space. The matching vanity does sit about 4 feet away on the opposing wall, so the space is visually complete.
my feet?
My IKEA Expedit bookcase, on its long side. It's a bit higher than my bed, which bugs me, but there is nowhere else in my apartment it will fit, and I need it for book storage. I think whatever you have at the foot, it's important to balance it with a headboard. Which I am lacking. :( I feel like my room is getting the shaft ever since I moved. The kitchen is perfect, the living room is getting there, but my poor bedroom.
A cushy ottoman/bench with throw pillows and folded clothes.
soon to be a loveseat! plan to purchase this weekend in the sales. I agree that for pictures shown, the ones with the sofa at the foot don't make sense but it will for me when i do the same thing, lol! the rooms in the pictures seem to have so much room that it doesn't make sense for them to be that close to the bed. i have few other places to locate it in my studio
An ottoman. Technically, my room is too small for it, but I needed a place to sit while putting on shoes and socks or whatever. It also stores my workout clothes, and I can still move freely around it.

Leather flip top storage bench. (It's where I sit to put on my socks and where the cats lurk part of the time...)
my feet !
