Love boot trays! I featured #6 in an article I wrote a while back :)
http://tilelifestyle.com/things-you-never-knew-you-needed-until-now/
I've never needed a boot tray for boots since it doesn't snow here, but I do use a green metal boot tray from Crate & Barrel in my kitchen to fill that narrow gap above my fridge that was bothering me with it's black hole-ness. I use the tray to store placemats and napkins.
I love the first one, but it doesn't hold enough! My hubby and sons boots wouldn't fit.
Somehow we've always managed with a rubber-backed bath-rug.
I love the theory of boot trays very much, but they've never worked for me. For one thing, they only hold 2 or 3 pairs of boots. Here in New England we frequently have rain, mud, and snow in the same week. Plus, we have dress and casual versions, so each of us has at least 3 or 4 pairs currently in use at any time. I covered the floor of the closet with a heavy ridged plastic that's meant to go over carpet and that's working pretty well.
But when I see these trays (especially # 1 and #6), even knowing that they will break my heart by being useless for me, I just want them.
I have two and use one under a large stainless water bowl in kitchen as my latest rescue cat LOVES to bat the water so much that most of a bowl was on the floor in the morning and when I get back from work. Now, I just pick up the tray and dump the water into the sink. Saves a heck of a lot of paper towels!
I like the IDEA of a boot tray, but I'm pretty sure the dog would think I was leaving her a chew toy if I left my boots out.
I keep a wire basket by the door, and boots and dirty shoes go in.
hmmm, $175? or $9? Such a tough choice.
It doesn't snow very much in Dallas but I do like #1. The price tag that comes along with it is pretty deterring, though.
Just make sure that the boot tray you want actually fits boots. The main complaint about the Crate and Barrel one is that it doesn't fit large sizes of women's shoes/boots or men's boots.
In Canada a boot tray is pretty much a must. I just wish they were a little larger!
@iamayardsale - We just picked one up at Canadian Tire and it's about 2x the size of the average one and covers the inside of our whole front closet.
Love this post b/c too often I see front entryways and I think to myself, you do not live where there is snow. We have 3 installed shoe racks in the front closet, a standing shoe outside of it and 4 various shoe floor mats just to survive the slush that's to come. Never mind the bench, hanging racks and cubbyholes to hold the mittens that always seem to disappear.
More importantly, how did all those snowy boots make it across to those beautiful boot trays without leaving a *single* drop of snow on those beautiful floors?
If those trays solve that one, I'm buying all of them.
Why even have a boot tray if you are going to get one with holes that let the water and mud drip to the floor?
