Located just a few block from UT's campus in Austin, Texas, the Helms House was an infamous party house from the 70s through the 90s, known especially for its legendary Halloween parties. Since then, it fell into disrepair and sat empty, and was then used as an office space for various businesses.
One of my happiest moments at this year's ICFF happened at the Grow House Grow booth. As I stood there chatting, it slowly dawned on me that not only did I recognize the wallpaper patterns as ones that I'd admired online before, but I also realized they were the work of one of my favorite Tumblr bloggers. I'm seriously obsessed with Katie Deedy's posts on her Tumblr and got to tell her how amazing she is in person - fun, fun!
Whenever anyone asks me for a source for interesting contemporary lighting, I just about shout out the name "ROLL & HILL!". The NY-based company is doing really great work with an amazing group of designers and the quality is jaw-droppingly remarkable. This year at ICFF, they showed off a few new, very imaginative designs, here are two worth a longer look:
