We've mentioned a bedroom cleanup before as a good weekend project, but since we are planning to do it ourselves tomorrow, we put together a checklist (that always seems to make the job go faster for us). After "cleansing" our closet, we think we can definitely knock out a bedroom deep clean in a few hours (just like Sarah did last weekend). If you are going to join in on the project, just put on some comfy clothes, turn up your favorite "cleaning" music and work your way through our not-so-daunting list of chores...you know you'll be happy you did. Checklist below:
The Bedroom Deep Clean, Step-by-Step:
1) Pick Up and Put Away All Clothes, Books, Belongings
2) Strip the Bed
3) Launder the Bedding
4) Flip the Mattress
5) Push Aside the Bed and Clean Under It
6) Vacuum Out the Closet
7) Dust all Surfaces and Wipe Down Light Switches, Fixtures and Ceiling Fan with a Microfiber Cloth
8) Clean Windows and Mirrors with a Glass or All Purpose Cleaner
9) Vacuum Drapes with Brush Attachment, Wash Curtains (if possible) or Clean Blinds
10) Clean the Floors/Vacuum the Carpet
11) Remake the Bed
12) Enjoy a Well Deserved Great Sleep in your VERY Clean Room!

Shaw's Original Fir...
open the window too!
Also, if you have lighting fixtures that moths get into, clean those out too.
I'm bookmarking this! I can't wait until spring comes so I can deep clean my entire apartment...
curious about the bed in the photo... does anyway know where it's from?
not sure it would go in my place, but it's stunning.

I wish I could move my bed to clean under it! I can barely manage to go down there with the vacuum...
How often do you turn your mattress? and do you flip it only from one side to the other (so your partner sleeps on what used to be on your side, let's say) or also upside down (so you rest your head where your feet used to be)? Sorry for that poor piece of written English, the sad part is that I'm not sure I'd be able to explain it in my own language.
Yes I would love to know about the bed too, its gorgeous!
God that's a lovely bed. I'll have to put that one in my imaginary Cottage of One's Own.
Xieta,
It depends on the type of mattress. Most mattresses made until a few years ago were two-sided, so you'd alternate flipping it upside down as well as rotating it 180 degrees on the bed every few months or so.
With mattresses that are one-sided (ones that are being sold currently, mostly), the mattress has a bottom and a top (a sleeping surface and a surface that allows it to rest on the floor/box spring/platform), so you would only rotate it.
Add me to the list of people who want to know where to find that bed!
THE BED! Does anyone know? Pleeeeeeese?
I really hope someone can source this beautiful bed! I am planning to deep clean my bedroom this week so this post is a nice encouragement. I really need to paint my walls something other than the unfortunate apartment cream as well.
Side note:Does anyone have any tips for tracking down what I believe was a house tour in birmingham? I could be totally wrong but the walls in the living room were a nice taupe and the art above the couch was six concert posters (I remember Pinback was one) and all posters had a light airy blue. I want to use that taupe because it was actually nice and my landlord is really picky about approving colors. Any help would be great, I've been looking all over the website for two months!
I love the list- I never really know where to start when everything needs to be done, I think this will really help me out.
Um, aren't the tasks on this list quite obvious? Duh!
Funny just what I am doing this week-end also. BTW it really is a great bed. lol

Check ebay for the bed. I almost bought one like it about a year back from a seller who upholsters vintage/antique beds and ships worldwide. I'm in Canada and she was going to reupholster and ship a bed like this to me for about $2000 (not including fabric). Good luck!
I have blinds that are a pain to clean/vacuum, so I have been loving the swiffer hand duster thingy. I just feel less than environmental because I go through 3 or 4 disposable refills every time. I'm allergic to the standard feather ones and get grossed out having to clean those. :(
"October over, April around" is the mnemonic I learned for when to flip and rotate your mattress. Hope it helps.
