I've seen play kitchens made from everything under the sun and it's become almost hard to impress me. But a play kitchen made from a chair? Okay, I'll bite.

This is one of the most clever handmade play kitchens I've seen and is an awesome display of ingenuity. Kata started with an IVAR chair from Ikea ($20), added a counter, a bowl sink, top of a walking cane for a faucet and hung a curtain for an oven. She doesn't mention it specifically, but the shelf looks like a BEKVAM spice rack.
Kata lives in Hungary and is one of my favorite DIYers. She chronicles it all on her blog Kicsi Haz where you can see more photos of this smart chair turned play kitchen. If you happen to live in Hungary, you can even buy one from her shop Boho Home. Also, check out another Kata-crafted play kitchen, what she calls the "almost garbage" play kitchen.
I hope this inspires someone to look around their home, garage, curb or thrift shop for something to transform into a kitchen or...something else! Below is a gallery of kitchens made from side tables, book shelves, entertainment centers, cardboard boxes and more to get your creative juices flowing.

That is so inspiring. My little guy loves to play in the kitchen. This chair to kitchen is so innovative. Love it.
wow! finally, a play kitchen even i might be able to make :)
I made my first play kitchen out of a breadbox I found at our thrift store. I spray painted the whole thing, painted burners on the top and made the flip down the oven and we stored all of the little stuff inside. It was the perfect size for our small house and lived on a shelf.
Genius!
Wow!
this is pretty great stuff! My biggest toy splurge as a parent was the Land of Nod kitchen/refridge set and this is really just as awesome (just without the great storage). Kudos!
Wow. Color me amazed. The chair kitchen is not only genius, it's also quite beautiful.
That is really clever and awesome! And mismatched chairs are really easy to find at yard sales and flea markets (or your own basement or garage if you're like my family). Genius!
This is great! It'd be awesome to also make the sides collapsible, for when space is at a premium!
So cute!
This is unbelievable! Truly the most creative play kitchen I've ever seen.
This is unbelievable! Truly the most creative play kitchen I've ever seen.
That's the cutest before and after ever! Who ever looked at the chair and though play kitchen, you've got quite the creative spirit.
Sweet and affordable.
No freakin way.. awesome!
I love it! Although it doesn't have the handy storage that some of those other ones have. I can't wait to make a kitchen for my daughter, I think I'm gonna have to start keeping an eye out for materials for it now.
I also love those pots and pans that look real, anyone have an idea of where to get some of those for relatively cheap?
The pots & pans are probably Ikea Duktig range Article Number : 001.301.67
Loving the kitchens :)
I don't know if she did this, but you could easily add a shelf or two behind the curtain to add storage.
Those are incredible. I don't usually even look at the kids posts, but these are fantastic!
