There was nothing wrong with the plain silk curtains in Maegan's ultra-feminine home office (which we profiled as a Tech Tour last year). But, when she spotted the luxe tassled curtains in Carrie's apartment while watching old episodes of Sex and the City, she knew she could recreate the look for less.
All it took was a few yards of elegant black tassel trim — as well as a few hours of patient pinning and hand-stitching — to really upgrade this window treatment. I love how the pop of black helps offset the white on white, and really adds the feel of framing to the window bench. This simple project would work really well in the bedroom, too, especially for budget curtains that need a punch of panache.

I love this - what a difference it makes!
You hand-stitched these! Wow, you really wanted them. I don't think they are girly girl (no offense intended here) but I do think they are very classey.
Nicely done.
Hand-stitched, I'm impressed! The trim really does add a nice kick. Great job!
The tassel trim is really nice but I disagree that there was nothing wrong with the Before curtains. IMHO, the curtain rod is too short and it should go at least a foot past the window (on each side) so that the curtains hang straight down instead of like two sides of a triangle.
What a difference such a simple thing makes...very nice!
Love it! And a simple thing even I can do..so thanks for the inspiration!
It really gives the window a much more tailored look without being stiff and formal.
I LOVE the detail on this! Very cute and elegant all at once. Although I do have to agree with Canadianmango that the curtain rod needs extending. Once he/she mentioned it- it was so distracting and all I see :(
I never understand why people don't know that it looks so much nicer if your curtain rods extend beyond the window, so that when the drapes are open, the full window is revealed. I think these pretty curtains look peculiar, especially with the window frame-sized bookcase beneath. Why not let your curtains hang straight ?
well executed but i agree they would be better showcased if the rod was extended :)
extend yo rod, girrrrrl.
Oh, so cute!
I agree that usually, a longer curtain rod would be better, but I can also see in this case (in the after picture) that draping the curtains to the sides of the shelving unit makes a feminine canopy-like effect. To each her own!
This particular arrangement is awkward but I don't necessarily agree that the entire frame has to show when you pull back your drapes. Some frames are ugly.
I like the subtle change the trim makes - but why the hand stitching? Also I agree with the other comments about extending the curtain rod. Or make the curtains shorter, the draping over the furniture is distracting.
Okay. We are house-sitting so I can't make these yet, but when we get our own place.....LOOK OUT! Thank you for such an inspiring change!
Shared this on the blog today!

I like the short rod (that sounds weird...) Makes it look like a cozy nook!
I love the trim. Thanks for the inspiration!
i love it! black and white is my favorite always!
A lot of people being very polite about this one! Curtains (whether plain or girly) look atrocious if they do not hang correctly. This could never occur unless the curtain rod were located further from the wall to avoid the window seat. Draping them around the edges simply exposes this design flaw, one that would not be solved even if the curtain rod were the correct length.
