Whether a room is warm-toned or cool-toned might not bother us in other rooms of our house, but we've got serious preferences when it comes to our bedroom. Maybe it's because we want to just relax when we get done with a long day of work, but warm colors are a big no-no for us in our sleep space. But, we've seen bedrooms that pull off bold and warm reds, yellows, oranges and more beautifully. Whether a warm or cool bedroom is best depends on you, so we've gathered ten to check out from Apartment Therapy house tours. Decide for yourself: when it comes to bedrooms does warm-colored or cool-colored win (in your opinion, at least)?

Z2 iPod Dock and Wi...
I have a weird mix of both. We have a very "cold" bed of grays and blues, but all of the art is very warm. I prefer a lot of color, so it's not so much about cool and warm as it is about how the colors complement one another and make me happy. I can fall asleep pretty much anywhere; I want to walk into my bedroom and be happy about how it looks. Bright colors do that for me.
As an aside, anyone else find it kind of funny that there are really big, sharp, metal stars hung above the crib? Neat design but I really hope they're on there tight!
Love love love :) The Nursery is adorable! And the orange and white bedroom.
I don't really have a warm vs cool preference, our master is green and our guest room is yellow. Most of our house is painted in colors from Valspar's Seaside Retreat line, though.
We went from warm:

To cool:

I like both but ultimately prefer cool and calming.
That mirrored headboard kind of freaks me out.
i'm all for an all black bedroom myself
Funny, my husband loves blue and I love red. We're going to be redecorating our bedroom soon, and the top row looks like his preferences, while the bottom row looks like mine. So far, we've solved the problem by having two duvet covers, one in cool muted blues, and one in bright red.
Re: sharp stars over the crib, I strongly strongly agree, possibly because I grew up in an earthquake zone. Even without an earthquake, I'd still be consired about gravity. I want nothing over my head in bed, and certainly wouldn't want anything over a baby's.
I tend toward cool colors, but because my house has a dark bedroom, I wanted a bright warm color too. Benjamin Moore summer lime was the perfect choice--it brightens up the space and feels warm and invigorating, but has the cool tones I like, especially combined with blues.
Mine is probably more warm than cool We have dark green walls and a red patterned quilt. Very cosy.
I agree with Hollywood Visions. Half the rooms have grey or neutral walls. I'm sure the archives contain some turquoise, lavender, moss green, brown, gold...?
@VisualLingual,
Great work! And you have a good eye for photography.
What a Valentine's room! Love it
I'd have to say that most of my clients prefer subtle warm colors for their bedroom over cooler ones.
I have duvet #9 (the orange and white one) and I love it. There are a lot of reds and oranges in our bedroom - it's true they aren't as calming as cooler colors, but I think they're sexier and more passionate. :)
I have a silvery green color in my bedroom. The warms tones would be hard to relax in, imo
Mine issue's not one of relaxation, but of actually being warm and cool. My bedroom is in the attic, and gets insanely hot in these Alabama summers. So, much though I love orange and yellow, they have to be restricted to accent colors for my cooling greens and blues. If my brain sees cool, maybe my body will follow!
I have the opposite problem from minuet24. My apartment, which I love otherwise, is COLD, even though I live in the temperate Bay Area. The bedroom in particular is chilly for more than half the year, and kind of large too so it feels cold in reality and also emotionally!
I've always been a cool-bedroom person but I painted this one a butter yellow to create some visual warmth.
There's a whole lot of Malm going on in these....
I much prefer warmer colors, but that doesn't mean a room can't be blue, green or gray. It's all in how warm the actual shade is. There are cool grays and warm grays, cool greens and warm greens. We have a warm green in our bedroom (with less blue and more yellow). It's serene and inviting. My problem with cool shades of blue or gray, for example, is that it does not seem very cozy, which seems antithetical to how a nesting spot should feel.
I want to say I prefer cool, but the bedrooms in my house are all pained a nice chocolate milk color, kinda warm.
The "color experts" say that the bedroom should be in cool colors because they are relaxing. I prefer that my bedroom feel warm and cozy so my room is mostly reds and browns with some splashes of orange. Yummmm!
Hmm..It depends on the kind of mood you want to set. Cool bedrooms are more conducive to rest and relaxation, warm bedrooms are more conducive to...well, other things.
I would like to point out that each of these bedrooms has both warm and cool elements. For me a nice harmony is the best way to go.
My bedroom is a very light yellow, almost but not quite a yellow-white. I like it because its a fairly subtle sunshine effect.
Bright whites make me sad, generally, when used as anything but accent furniture.
Cream is a warm, but hardly loud. I enjoy it.
@ m'elizabeth: I think those are paper stars, and if they can handle being swung around a bit, I doubt they would come down even in the most severe earthquake.
#1 is my fav! It makes me want Ikea's Malm furniture.
@ VisuaLingualLtd: Bravo, I love the second photo! So peaceful, even your cat thinks so.
I like the room to feel generally cool, but I like the bed linens to be generally warm. Teals and purples for the walls, greens and oranges for the linens. It makes me feel like I'm in a cocoon.
I painted my bedroom too cool, and now that it's the longest winter of all time I'm really regretting that.
I once knew a woman who painted her bedroom bright blood red; she and her husband had once of the most toxic relationships and nastiest divorces I've ever seen... (just a thought)...
My husband and I have had pink bedrooms twice (beautiful glazed walls, covered in a clear coat which deepened the colours); offewhite with periwinkle; grey (depressing; hard to wake up; hard to drag out of bed; but then, I also had cancer then...); pale araucana green, and just off-white.
The shades of pink (each room was several shades of pink) were the most calming and dreamiest, but I am not in the mood for pink these days. My daughter's room is painted fuschia; I think hers is going to be a nice calming blue when we get back!
Have tried (tried as in: painted an entire room and then re-painted as soon as it was dry) but I just can't live with blue walls, even though I sometimes--like now--think they look great in pictures.
Blue was one of the many colours I tried in my bedroom, after I decided that its beautiful red--though a perfect choice to go with the room's old flower-strewn plaster ceiling--was not so beautiful with my deco furniture.
What a drama! Of the various coats of paint I inflicted on this little room, the worst was a buttercream that, while offering a perfectly tasteful complement to the furniture, was just incredibly depressing. (Why? A reminder of rentals past?)
Now it's pure white (to the amazement of all who had lived through its various transformations). But it has an orange and white quilt, so it's a happy room.
i like the art in #9
I like warm colors pretty much everywhere, because I think the home should be cozy and warm...but that's just me. My bedroom is painted a rich, fudge brown and we love it. The trim is a very clean white, and our duvet cover is a warm beige with a bit of texture. Right now our furniture is a bit mix and match, but the white keeps the brown from being overwhelming. It's a very cottage-y sort of feel, which I love.
