As photographers themselves, Gordon Szeto and Hung Tran know the challenges of finding a gallery and selling your work. So when they opened their own gallery in 2012, they knew they wanted to focus on local San Francisco photographers.
Name/Title: Gordon Szeto and Hung Tran, Co-owners
Open Date: 2012
Inspiration for opening: We are both photographers and know how hard it is to sell and get exposure for your work. 4x5 is a photography gallery that focuses on helping local emerging photographers accomplish that.
Merchandise Source: Most of our photographers are locally based.
Best selling item: Currently black and white landscapes have been a great seller.
Favorite item: One of my favorite works is by an artist named Yoshio Ishikawa (image #5 above). He has several one of a kind images. The work he has in our bins is done without any cameras or film creating all his images from start to finish in the darkroom.
Favorite store (other than your own): Glass Key Photo is a really cool analog photo supply store. They have everything you need to shoot film photography: cameras, film, developing chemicals and paper. They even have kits for alternative photo processes like tin type and cyanotype. The place to go to in the city for film photography!
