Aldea Home fulfills the furnishing needs of style conscious city dwellers with accessibly priced, unique and hand-picked pieces for the office, bedroom, bathroom, living room, kitchen, outdoor and nursery.
On a recent trip to San Francisco, I spent two days exploring the funky shops on Valencia Street. It was hardly enough, since I could have spent the entire time browsing and relaxing in Aldea. Lofty and bright with a welcoming quality, it's a place where the owner, Johanna, and the staff invite you in to shop, sit, and talk design.
On the day I visited, the dining table was set for a casual dinner party with imaginary guests Tyra Banks, Christiane Amanpour, and others. Mimicking that effortlessly cool friend with serious style, Aldea's space is divided into rooms that are always being rearranged and redecorated. Starting with staples from DwellStudio, Roost, Bungalow 5, and Jonathan Adler, Johanna weaves in work from local artists and craftsmen. Their exclusive pillows and fabric by Labexperiment are a graphic kaleidoscope of shapes and colors. It all works because she doesn't stock anything she wouldn't have in her own home. And I agree; I would want everything in my home. You know what? Maybe I'll just move in. I'll take the Mood bed in the back.
