Blue Moon Trading satisfies multiple style needs at once. There are reclaimed and repurposed architectural elements, mixed in with traditional antiques, a touch of shabby chic, and Florida appropriate decor. While the store has a decidedly eclectic flea market feel, everything is unified by its calm color palette: largely light blues, grays and whites. It gives the space a relaxed and casual yet classy vibe that totally works for the Tampa Bay area. You can see it appealing to adults, and remaining kid-friendly to boot.
Furniture and accessories spill out of the shop and onto an equally packed outdoor patio. Owner Katie Gagnon prides herself on making sure the store is stocked, and tries to keep the inventory moving. She does it by collaborating with local makers who continually create one-of-a-kind pieces for her, based mainly on salvaged finds. As an added benefit. this arrangement means they can re-tweak and customize anything, per individual needs. The result is personal and stylish.
Prices aren't bad either. While not dirt cheap, they are very fair and certainly rival places, such as Anthropologie, that offer a similar look.
Katie originally thought she'd become a designer herself, but wound up gravitating more to the retail side of things. She purchased the store back in 2004 when it was largely a vintage shop, and it's evolved ever since. For those that are interested, Katie also does affordable design consultations and offers workshops.
