Store Profile

Store History

  • Founded: June 2011
  • Founded by: Isabelle Dahlin
  • Headquarters: Echo park

Isabelle Dahlin has found her happy place and she's bringing it to Echo Park! This past Saturday, June 25th, marked the official opening of deKor. Nestled between Alvarado and Mohawk, in the center of many other fine retail venues, we now have a new Swedish American mixture of home goods. Curating everything from vintage cabinets and chairs to modern light fixtures and textiles, there is something for everyone — even an assortment of pottery for your pets!

Raised in Sweden by artists, Isabelle Dahlin grew up in a home filled with art and design. "Visual aesthetics," says Dahlin, "were an integral part of daily life, and their constant presence provided me lifelong associations with well-being and happiness." Bringing over this artful abundance to her every day life and in her new store, Isabelle enjoys the mixture of materials, textiles and lots of color. Studying at Parsons and Otis, Isabelle found her inspiration while working with interior designer David Phoenix.

It has always been a dream of Isabelle's to open a storefront where she can share her ideas about home and happiness, comfort and playfulness. She wanted to create a brick and mortar storefront where people would feel right at home, and where friends would come to just hang out. Inviting friends to linger in the store is easy when you've got a fully stocked kitchen and table in the back, which is placed perfectly under the new skylight Isabelle installed.

The idea of deKor is to bring you home goods that will make your space feel amazing, warm and inviting, Isablle claims, "so your guests feel like they never want to leave". Isabelle brought on (our mutual friend) Evan Harrison, to help her design the space and perfect each detail. Together they have arranged and carefully spaced out each vignette, from the front of the shop to the rear, just like a loftspace or an apartment. Walking through the space it really feels like you're in someone's house.

When I asked Isabelle about what her main concept was for her home and store she said, "I believe you can mix and match things in your home … who cares about everything else. It's your home and it should make you happy every day".
