After hearing how hospitals in Sweden were using a unique cloth to clean with water rather than traditional chemical cleaners, UK designer Steve Pearson was inspired to create a version of his own. In 1995 he partnered with engineer John Park and a group of Korean scientists to create a line of microfiber cleaning cloths called e–cloth.
The science behind e–cloth is that because the cloth is comprised of fibers that are extremely small (up to 1.6 million fiber strands per square inch of cloth) and strong, they can break up, lift, lock in, and clean deep down into the tiniest grooves and crevices. Using just water, the cloths are able to remove over 99% of bacteria, locking them away inside the cloths special fibres, where they stay until the cloths are washed. Each cloth can be laundered approximately 300 times.
