Disappointed by the options available for covering his iPhone, designer Erick Waldman decided to create his own modern organic version using wood. After fielding orders from friends and family, Erick launched Lazerwood, following up with keyboards, headphones and custom designs.
Name/Title: Erick Waldman/Founder
Launch date: I started Lazerwood in the winter of 2010.
Inspiration for opening: I am a designer by trade and was in the market for an iPhone cover when the iPhone 4 came out. I wanted something beautiful that didn't compete with the clean lines of the iPhone or add a bunch of bulk. The only thing available at the time were ugly plastic cases. I made a few prototypes at work and immediately had requests from friends and family for versions of their own. Hence the birth of Lazerwood Industries.
Merchandise source: Lazerwood is a fully encapsulated design and production house. We source our wood veneer from a US supplier, but everything else is done by our team; from finishing of the wood and creating designs to the final quality checks and fulfillment. We love having a nimble production line that allows us to take an idea from concept to production in a few short steps.
Best selling item: Anything in Walnut! Our Walnut iPhone cover is a perennial favorite tied only with our Walnut Keys for MacBook Pro.
Your favorite item: I really love typing on the walnut Lazerwood Keys on my Apple Wireless keyboard.
Favorite store (other than your own): I really love seeing how other creatives are taking natural products and making cool stuff. Our fellow Seattleites over at Graypants and Sandwichbikes are some of my favorite examples right now.
