David & Jason Chung
Equal parts general store, apothecary, card shop, and baby boutique: this is Local Fixture, located in a little suburb of LA called Whittier. Whittier is a small, sleep town with cozy homes and matching lawns, and not that much by way of retail. Enter David and Jason Chung, who have taken over this old Edison building and offer quite a mix under one big roof.
Name/Title: The Brothers Chung, David & Jason, Co-Founders of Local Fixture
Launch date: December 2013
Inspiration for opening: Jason and his family live in Whittier, so we really wanted to contribute something meaningful to the growing Uptown scene. We put our heads together, batted some ideas around, and arrived at our take for this generation's general store.
Part of that meant bringing unique products that we personally enjoyed into Whittier, things that you couldn't find anywhere else locally. The second part was building a warm and inviting space for our community to enjoy. For us it was all about spreading good vibes and encouraging kinship.
Merchandise source: We find things everywhere, from local flea markets to visiting stores that we admire. Wherever we go we always have our minds and eyes open.
Best selling item: Aquiesse Sandalwood Vanille scented Soy Candles, Uppercut Men's Pomade, and lots of fun and funky socks!
Your favorite item: Right now it has to be the Filson x Harris Tweed Briefcase. We love this bag because it's both rugged and sophisticated — like the great outdoors meets Sean Connery
Favorite store (other than your own): A to Z Mart, a family-owned antiques and vintage furniture store, also in Whittier. Some local folks will probably get mad at us because they'd like to keep this place all to themselves. You can find anything from vintage Herman Miller to tube radios from the 1920s, and the prices are always reasonable.
