According to Trinh and Buscher, Metropolitan Cityscapes "is an homage to the cities we have visited and those that have inspired us. In making them, we hope to create a starting point for your own stories and experiences."
Each map is intricately hand drawn then cut out of paper, creating a lattice-like portrait of a city's physical layout. I love the way these maps are so detailed yet so nuanced; a canvas for us to fill with our own musings on a particular city, maybe one we've experienced intimately or one we dream of exploring one day.
Maps can be purchased directly by visiting Metropolitan Cityscapes and are also available at MCA Sydney.

Commercial Flour Sa...
pretty cool.. but not at that price..
I agree. These are really pretty but not at that price.
I did a 18x24 version of San Francisco myself. It was very simple to do, just very time consuming. All it took were an exacto knife, map printout, and 5 nights.
Why are the artists/owners wearing gloves in the photo?
Makes me want a laser cutter....these are so amazing!! I may just have to try and DIY one of these by hand.
YoNella, probably so they don't get fingerprints on the paper.
If you like the look but need a much more wallet friendly option, check out CityFabric.
They do prints (so no laser cutting involved) of city maps with a very similar feel.

I have a friend who does these by hand! He has an etsy store - Mapsburgh. His 5x7s are $35, so a considerably better deal.
I've seen Mapsburgh's maps, too - the neighborhood-scale ones are super detailed!
Nice!!
More detail in these ones however - Mapsburgh ones (and some others on Esty) only have the street pattern. And it looks like they do metal as well as paper ones.
Would be nice to see VENICE!
