We founded our interior design firm, SPI Design, in 2004 with the idea that the ideals of modernism can be successfully combined with comfort and livability. In 2010, we launched SPI Baby, a kid's furniture and accessories line, that is based on the same principle. With all of our work, we strive to show that modernism can be sophisticated and fun, that livability should never mean compromising taste.

Los Angeles-based designers Sarah Shetter and Alison Pavetsky just launched a new line of children's furniture that's designed to make the transition from nursery all the way up to teen room, at least theoretically. The line includes changing tables that can pinch hit as hampers/dressers, upholstered rockers that resemble wing chairs, and area rugs that are bright and playful without feeling too babyish.

There are three main collections — Pinwheel, Color Swirl, and Jack — which can be mixed and matched. The line (not including the cribs shown above) just became available online — here's a little more info from Sarah and Alison:

"Priced for the luxury market, items range from $15 for the cabinetry hardware to $1730 for the Windward Wingback Glider. Over the years, we have worked diligently to seek out local artisans who take pride in their craft."

"Except for the area rugs, the entire SPI Baby line is made by craftsmen in Los Angeles. Our customers want to invest in well-made and timeless products, and the close relationships we've formed with local manufacturers allow us to oversee the creation and quality control of our pieces."

What do you think? Could these pieces make the leap from nursery furniture to teen room?
