We totally had one of these old console TVs when I was growing up. Ours wasn't quite as ornate as this one, but it sat like a monstrosity in our family room and we thought it was like an IMAX theater. The ladies over at Sugar Tot Designs didn't save this TV from their childhood. They got it from the free section on Craigslist, and then they turned it into an amazing all-purpose play space for kids.

Sarah, the upcycler of the duo, took apart the TV and left the shell. With some paint and fabric, the frame (originally meant as a dog bed) has been repurposed into, among other things, a reading nook, a house, a bus, an airplane, a puppet theater, a hideout and a store.
Check out how Sarah managed it at Sugar Tot Designs.

Shaw's Original Fir...
This looks awesome. In most of these cases I am not a fan of painting wood but this is the perfect case for doing so.
That said, televisions are very toxic things and we need to be VERY careful when disassembling them. Also, make sure that you know your local ordinances on throwing away or recycling the toxic components.
This is AMAZING! I'll be scouting the Craigslist free section!
Those are some lucky kids with some clever peeps.
This is amazing. I love stuff like this that encourages children's imaginations, especially in a world of iphones, ipads, video games.. etc
Talk about retreating to your "happy place!" Luv it!
Now this is creative!
Best use of an old floor model tv that I've ever seen. Awesome job!
Oh, I remember this TV..we had one too. Nice job on the transformation.
This is the kind of creativity that attracts to AT, thanks so much for sharing :)
I miss the ol' TV console... memories of camping out on the carpet in front of it with the family, lying back and flicking that decorative handle on the bottom with my feety-pajama-clad foot. This is an awesome DIY though, great job making something useful out of the obsolete.
SO COOL!
Neat!
Wonderful!
Very cool - love the colours
What a cool idea. I wish I had space in my kindergarten classroom for one of these.
Nice!!!
Cute cute cute!
But since I don't have kids at home any longer, I think I prefer the conversion to a bar instead. ;)
too cute i almost wish i hadnt JUST put one of those exact tv's on the corner with a free sign.
I really love this!!!
