Album Storage &amp; Record Cabinets: 8 Options

Since the 1980s, people have been declaring that the LP is dead, yet DJs and vinylphiles have kept it alive all these years. Cool album art, quality sound, and cheap prices on vintage records are all reasons for holding onto your LPs, but the big drawback is the hulking amount of space they consume. If you're dedicated to preserving your record collection in tact, there are some good storage options at all price points — here are eight.

Atocha Design: Created by Jennifer Levin Atocha, this record cabinet is a gorgeous high-end option. Each one is built to order from American maple, oak, cherry, or walnut. Pricing ranges from $3,400 for four drawers to $5,900 for more complex configurations.
BrickBox: Barcelona designers Antxon Salvador and Roger Zanni just launched modular bookcase made from laminated birch plywood carrying crates that stack together. Not yet available in the US, it's sold per individual crate — €39.95 for the large and €29.95 for the small.
Indie Furniture: Nicola Enrico Staubli designed a set of readymade clamps, which can be used to create semi-custom shelving. The customer provides the wood, while he ships the clamps so you can make your own modular shelves. Clamps are made from aluminum and cost $22 each.
Dual: Based out of San Francisco, Dual makes and sells DJ furniture, including consoles, platforms, and LP storage. Everything is manufactured in the USA, including this Portland Record Storage Cabinet, $625. Storage capacity is approximately 600 records.
VandM.com: Vintage is always a good option when you're shopping for record storage, and you can find pieces ranging from $10 at garage sales to thousands at antique stores. Online antique aggregator site V & M currently has this Vintage Gramophone Cabinet for $995.
Smart Furniture: Doron Lachisch's Cubitec Shelves are a modular, scalable storage system made from recyclable lightweight injection-molded polypropylene. Smart Furniture sells them for $225 per kit, with free shipping.
IKEA: If you're looking for budget options, IKEA's $99 PS Cabinet has adjustable shelves that can be removed to fit albums, and it's made from powdercoated steel, which — unlike fiberboard — is strong enough to hold records without warping over time.
