Adrian and Allison — a set designer and writer — carefully renovated their Brooklyn loft, choosing unexpected materials for an industrial space. Dining Area

West Elm: The dining table shown above was made from scrap wood using these step-by-step instructions as a guide. If you're looking for a readymade, this West Elm industrial dining table ($800 - $900) is made from reclaimed Saal wood with steel legs.
Barn Light Electric: This store sells American-made light fixtures in industrial styles, and pricing is affordable. This barn light deep bowl pendant ($69) comes in multiple sizes and over 50 finishes, including red, white, black, and silver.

Kitchen Area

Dwyer: Illinois-based Dwyer sells modular wood and metal cabinets in a variety of styles and finishes. Many cabinets are made from recycled aluminum, and all are KCMA and GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified.
Sears: To green your appliances, buy used or search for Energy Star certified models, which are widely available through major chain stores. This basic GE Refrigerator ($450) comes with Energy Star Certification and has a high customer review rating.
Green Depot: This home improvement store has retail locations scattered throughout the East Coast and Midwest. Their Cambria Quartz Counters have the same look and feel as granite, but they're made from 93% natural quartz and they're Greenguard certified.

Living Space

Plyboo: Manufactured by Smith & Fong Co, Plyboo is formaldehyde-free, FSC-certified bamboo plywood. It comes in several different finishes that can be used for floors and walls. Find it online, where you can source architectural distributors in your area.
