If you're looking for wallpaper that's a little out of the ordinary, Bloompapers may be just the ticket. Bloompapers' work with both established and up and coming artists produces some extraordinary wall murals. And if you fancy yourself an artist, you can also design your own wallpaper.
Name/Title: Lucy Powell/Marketing Director
Launch date: 2008 for the UK and Spanish markets and at the start of 2013 we launched bloompapers in the US, with a new office in Brooklyn. Later in 2013 we will be launching our web store in Dutch for The Netherlands and Belgium.
Inspiration for opening: We have worked with wallpapers for many years and over time we began to see a change in the consumer - they wanted wallpaper that could be personalized, both in design and size. It was then that the idea for Bloompapers came about; if we launched a store offering digitally printed wall murals, we could provide unique wallpapers which were made to measure, in any number of designs. The idea of 'bespoke' wallpaper really appealed to us and we saw a gap in the market for it. We contacted various artists, both well known and up and coming, to create some designs for wallpaper for us and began to print them digitally, to the exact size of the customer's wall. In addition to this, if the customer wants their own design printed on to wallpaper, we can create that for them too.
Merchandise source: We print all our bloompapers on demand and the majority of our designs come from our 'Bloom Artists'. We collaborate with artists from all over the world, including Catalina Estrada, Aleix Gordo and Hiroshi Tsunoda, who give us their art to be able to create wallpaper. Our artists cover many different artistic techniques, ranging from photography to illustration to urban graffiti.
Best selling item: Our Catalina Estrada wall murals sell very well, as do many of our fresh, colourful and original designs for kids - we try to stay away from the typical cartoon characters which are found everywhere. We want to appeal to the cooler kids, both young and old!
Your favorite item: I love Nuria Mora's 'Flower Print' mural - she transforms the typical floral motif into something unique and almost vintage in its color combinations and style. It's a timeless design, which makes it perfect for introducing into any style of interior.
Favorite store (other than your own): I love the philosophy behind DesignCode - they create beautiful objects for the home which combine functionality with great design. They make all their products in Barcelona. Also RecycledBrooklyn, who make incredible furniture made out of salvaged wood.
