I don't know if it's summer that's bringing it on, but I've got a yen to travel. As a result, I'm finding myself obsessing over kilim pillows, suzanis, and all things exotic. So, I was very happy to stumble into a store named, appropriately, Distant.
If it looks vaguely familiar, it's because the gorgeous store — all whitewashed walls and colorful merchandise — was, until recently, in Silver Lake. They've moved and set up shop on West Third Street near the Beverly Center.
Along with the aforementioned suzanis and kilim pillows, there are floor pillows made from Kurdish grain sacks. The talented shopwner, Arzu Benavides, has expanded her designing talents to include hand-embroidered cityscape pillows.
Add jewelry, bright caftans and robes to match their plush Turkish towels, and a visit to the store can momentarily quench a thirst for travel and adventure. Toss in four parking spaces in the back, and there's no excuse not to visit.
