A comprehensive course for eco-friendly products for home, health, fitness, outdoor living, maternity, clothing, gardening, kids and more. Packaging and paper use kept to a minimum; company donates 1 percent of sales to environmentally focused organizations.
Since June is Gardening and Outdoors month, an all-you-need stop with all-things-eco seems to fit the bill—less time spent shopping means more time to soak up the sun. Luckily, we found a veritable treasure trove of green goods in Greenshops, a source with more products than most of us can cram into our teeny apartments.
While the Greenshops store, in Bakersfield, Calif., has limited hours of operation, the e-commerce site whose mission is "to create healthy and sustainable work and home spaces" is as comprehensive as it gets. Co-founded by an ex-mortgage broker and an ex-NYC Radio City Rockette who wanted to create a resource for every type of individual and every degree of sustainability, Greenshops offers a full array of home accessories, decor, skincare, clothing, kids' gifts, yoga necessities and outdoor gear.
The company is almost entirely paperless; its gift wrapping and bags are made from 100 percent recycled content; no packing slips or invoices are included in shipments; and registry cards/gift messages are printed on elephant pooh paper (yes, you read that correctly!)
In addition, Greenshops is a member of One Percent for the Planet, an alliance of businesses who redistribute 1 percent of their sales to organizations with an environmental focus. While you're shopping, check out the wide selection of feminine bamboo bedding, colorful tabletop pieces by Bambu and graphic wall hangings by Amenity, which are made from non-toxic, water-based, eco-friendly dyes on 300 thread count organic cotton.
