Every Saturday morning, just one block away from our apartment, the small but vibrant Silver Lake farmers market opens from 8am-1pm, offering a selection of produce, coffee, baked items, clothing and housewares. A fairly recent addition has become a favourite stop during our weekend shopping: the Silver Lake Farms flower stand. We've been trying to buy as much locally produced products and produce the last year or so, and since we love brightening the home with fresh cut flowers, the Silver Lake Farms perfectly fits the bill for our floral needs.

The privately operated farm aims to offer sustainable-grown flowers, fruits and vegetables, all within a five mile radius, all flowers harvested the very morning of the market. Founder Tara Kolla will happily handpick your bouquet arrangement with friendly care at the Echo Park, Silver Lake, Atwater Village and Los Angeles Arts Districts farmers markets (times listed here). Be sure to get to her stand quickly...her flowers often sell out, and we've gone home a few times sadly empty handed.

Tara offers a local Organic Gardening workshop. Unfortunately, the workshop is already full, but you can join her mailing list to learn more about future workshops to get your own hands into organic gardening!
