Paul Rowan and Les Mandelbaum
Umbra began in 1979, when boyhood friends Paul Rowan and Les Mandelbaum joined forces to create exciting, everyday products that alter the overall aesthetic of a home, beginning with a printed window shade unlike anything then in the market ("umbra" means shade in Latin).
During this month's focus on small space living, we've returned to Umbra's website again and again to find great home accessories that either add a punch of design or provide an innovate storage solution all while remaining reasonably priced. Umbra items are available in hundreds of stores around the world, but their online store also features products available with the push of a button.
With products ranging from higher end furniture from their U+ Collection to under-sink storage to wallpaper, Umbra's line runs the gamut of home accessories from the most exciting to the most mundane. And when we say affordable, we mean it. The most expensive item on their website is the Rolly Desk, part of the U+ Collection, for $1,000 (which is no drop in the bucket), but the majority of items are priced under $100 with many under $50.
So, next time you are in search of a set of wall hooks that are easy on the eye (and wallet) for your entryway or a sink caddy to hold your sponge or some beautiful bamboo bathroom accessories, be sure to visit the Umbra On-Line store. Who knows...you might find something else you didn't even know you needed.
