A design-savvy baby room does more than just provide a comfortable place for an infant to sleep in and later, grow up in. It should be a well-organized, lovely space that adults enjoy spending time in, too. To help inspire your own nursery design endeavors, we searched our house tours high and low and rounded up a few of the most stylish baby rooms we could find. From floating shelves to statement walls and more, scroll down for 15 baby room ideas that are every bit as chic as they are functional.

1. Put a Wreath on It

A pair of metal ring wreaths with faux greenery liven up a sophisticated nursery wall, as seen in Sarah’s California remodel. This neutral scheme includes mustard colored bedding, a red vintage rug, and lots of white furniture and lighting.

2. Employ Picture Ledges

A handful of narrow picture ledge racks turns a sliver of wall space into a storage-savvy setup for books, like we saw in Mel and Mario’s baby room in Spain. You also can’t ignore that pretty DIY dresser. It’s amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do for an inexpensive or older piece of furniture.

3. Paint Statement Walls

Prefer your baby rooms with a bit more pizzazz? Follow in Julia and Matt’s footsteps and paint the walls of two contrasting colors to make a statement, like they did with black and white inside their Culver City, California home. Blonde wood finishes and accents finish off the somewhat Scandi style look.

4. Double Up on Drapery

Employ two different pairs of patterned drapes from the same color palette, like the gray and white striped and printed ones we spotted in the Barrett’s South Carolina home. Not only will this let your little sleep uninterrupted by sunlight, but it will also add serious style to the decor scheme.

5. Go Green

A tall, leafy tree or houseplant transforms a tight baby room corner into a naturally colorful scene, just as we saw in Jaimee and David’s Minneapolis, Minnesota home. Think about your rug choice in kid spaces like baby rooms, too. The softer, the better, if you want the baby to be able to play on the ground from time to time.

6. Bold Wall Paint FTW

Bright green wall paint energizes a small baby room without taking up an inch of floor space, like we saw in Jill and Dan’s Portland home. We also love the subtle nod to nautical style here. Themes can work in nurseries—just try to keep your accents timeless.

7. Invest in a Comfortable Rocking Chair

No baby room would be complete without an extra comfy rocking chair or glider to sit in while you rock your baby to sleep. Take a cue from the Ullom’s North Carolina nursery and dress your rocking chair up with plush pillows and throws to ensure both parent and baby can sit snugly.

8. Try a Letter Board

A vintage-style letter board supplies ample inspirational quote opportunities on a nursery wall, just as we saw in Alison and Trevor’s Vancouver baby room. If you have one from your birth announcement, give it new life by hanging it above a crib or displaying it on a shelving unit.

9. Add an Eye-Catching Side Chair

Adult seating is super important in a nursery, since you—as well as friends and family—will be spending a lot of time there. An ultramodern Panton chair creates a colorful and shapely accent in a baby room, while also providing a place to sit, like we saw in Edith and Ole’s nursery in Oslo. And don’t forget a daybed, futon, or lounger in case you want to partake in a little nap time yourself.

10. Make a Mini Gallery Wall

A petite salon-style installation turns the area above your baby’s crib into an artful scene, just as we found in Lorraine and Mark’s Cape Town nursery. Aim for a mix of different types of artwork and frame finishes, so there’s a nice variety in your display.

11. Look for Furnishings that Pull Double Duty

A dresser-desk hybrid with a pullout shelf provides extra nursery storage space (and a place for grown-ups to get work done), as we saw in the Thrane family’s baby room in Copenhagen, Denmark. Another twofer furnishing to consider for a baby space is a storage ottoman. You can kick your feet up on it while lounging or nursing, while the built-in compartment is perfect for holding extra diapers, wipes, and other baby supplies.

12. DIY a Butterfly Wall Display

A flurry of stick-on butterfly wall decals transforms a plain nursery wall into a whimsical scene in seconds, just like we saw in the Janssen’s New Orleans abode. Note the IKEA shelving unit that the butterflies are hanging above—this is the perfect addition to a nursery for storing and organizing all sorts of baby gear.

13. Brighten Things Up

A cheery palette of sunny yellow walls and rainbow-colored textiles make a baby room feel bright, interactive, and inviting, as we found in Jessica and Scott’s New Jersey nursery. The lesson here? Find yourself a bold rug, bedding set, or piece of art, and build your nursery color scheme from that.

14. Make Some Mirrored Magic

A dresser and mirror combo offers up loads of crib-side storage space and alternate angles for keeping an eye on the baby, as we saw in the Salo’s Cleveland home. Reflective surfaces like are especially useful in dimmer rooms, as they can bounce natural light around a space when the windows are open.

15. Forge a Reading Nook

A handful of oversized floor pillows and stuffed animals transforms an empty baby room corner into a bonafide reading nook with the help of a colorful area rug, just like we found in the Jeffers’ nursery in Brooklyn. If you keep your wall color neutral with a shade like gray, you can use pretty much any toy or textile to add a dose of color to the room.
