The Exciting Art Trend That’s All Over Pinterest Right Now
Gallery walls were the talk of 2017 (and well, quite a bit of time before that), but we (and evidently the design-loving community on Pinterest) are ready for something a little different. According to the Pinterest 100 report released yesterday, “big wall art” was one of the most searched-for pins over the past year.
Not that we have anything against gallery walls—because we don’t—but they can be hard to build and, depending on the room, can add visual busyness. That’s why we’re getting behind the “one and done” philosophy behind a single piece of oversize art; it looks really posh but also is just plain easier. Take a look at the following rooms that do it right.
Big and Bright: Who needs a whole darn gallery wall when you can focus on just one eye-catching work of art? A bold abstract piece like this one from Fenton & Fenton (shown in a room via Style Curator) above a simple furnishing (and energetic rug) makes a bold but sophisticated statement.
Propped Up: Never underestimate the power of a well-placed piece of oversize art. Try propping a framed print or painting on top of your dresser (as seen on Design*Sponge) to score a sleek wall display that—bonus!—won’t leave behind any nail damage.
Photography: If a picture is worth a thousand words then a large-scale photograph may be priceless when it comes to decorating your home. Whether it’s black-and-white or brimming with color, like this one by DOS Design on Desire to Inspire, a sizable photo of a compelling subject anchors a lofty muted space in no time.
Muted Colors: Sometimes, all it takes is a little color to make a big impact with your wall art. Case in point: Mike and Sandie’s foyer (as seen on Apartment Therapy) where you’ll find a huge work of art in subtle hues that helps to play up the room’s crisp white walls and intricate crown moldings.
