The Tools That Permanently Changed My Cleaning Routine
For Riddley Gemperlein-Schirm, an allergy sufferer and lifestyle editor for our sister site, the Kitchn, dusting and sweeping aren’t chores at all. “I love to clean,” she says. “It helps me feel centered.” We couldn’t agree more: Cleaning clears your mind as well as your space.
But Riddley and her husband just moved into a new home, and she needed a better solution for the dust that accumulated in her master bathroom’s hard-to-reach spots. Those included baseboards, light fixtures, and vents — which could then blow the dust right back into the air.
Unlike traditional feather dusters, Swiffer Heavy Duty Dusters use thousands of specially coated fibers and 360 degrees of fluffy fibers to trap and lock dust at its source. Armed with a Swiffer Dusters Heavy Duty Super Extender, Riddley was ready to up her dusting game — literally.
Riddley enjoys cleaning, but she still wants it to be easy. “I love using the Swiffer Duster Super Extender so I don’t have to strain to dust things like light fixtures and high-up air vents.” With a reach of up to six feet, the Super Extender helped her dust spots that were previously too tricky to reach. “My husband is 6’8,” so, in the past, when I had to dust something super high up, I’d make him help me. Now I can do it myself, whenever I want.”
An unexpected dust hangout
Take it from an allergy sufferer: Don’t forget your baseboards. “Baseboards are always WAY dustier and dirtier than you think they should be,” Riddley says. “And they’re annoying to clean because they’re so long and there are so many of them around the house!”
The Swiffer Dusters Heavy Duty Extendable Handle made an immediate difference with the baseboards, and the handle extends to three feet, meaning no crouching or craning. “I love how light and nimble it is! It’s easy to maneuver and adjust and the handle is comfortable. The duster’s head easily glides along surfaces and reaches every nook and cranny.”
Pay attention to neglected areas
Next, Riddley tackled the bathroom floor with the Swiffer Sweeper, paying extra attention to neglected spots like under the vanity, where gunk can build up. “I am a huge fan of the Swiffer Sweeper,” Riddley says. “It collects dust, dirt, and hair super easily. I couldn’t believe how much hair it picked up! I know I shed but, eek, it was gross!” Bonus: The powerful yet gentle sweeper pad is safe to use on her new home’s hardwood floors.
Now, Riddley is pleased to have a cleaning routine that’s even tougher on dust than before. “I hadn’t used a Swiffer before this, and I was surprised by how much I loved it,” she says. “And my space feels so clean and settled! I plan to keep a Swiffer duster on each floor of my house, for easy grabbing.”
