4 Home Decorating Tips You (and Your Pet) Will Love
Any pet owner will tell you that there’s nothing like having a furry friend around the house. But even the best-trained animal can be hard on your home, so it’s important to make smart but stylish decorating choices that meet your needs and theirs. Here are four easy tips you can apply to make sure that your décor is pet purrfect.
1. Pick a material you can trust.
Not all upholstery is created equal. If your pet’s behavior indoors is better suited to the Great Outdoors, then you’re going to want furniture that can stand up to their inner nature. Leather is a strong choice: its classic appearance is backed by proven durability. A sleek leather sofa or couch can maintain its polished appeal about four times longer than its fabric counterpart.
2. Practice creature coordination.
It’s pretty obvious when your black dog has been curling up on your white couch. If you don’t want to get out the lint roller after every cuddle session, then consider upholstery that is closer to their natural coloring. A good match doesn’t mean the hair isn’t there, but it at least makes sure it isn’t the first thing you (or your guests) see when you enter the house.
3. Protect your floors…in style.
Fur looks great on your pet, but it’s not the best accessory for your floors. If shedding is a concern, lay down a cozy area rug: it’ll keep the fuzz contained to a smaller space, saving you from wall-to-wall cleaning jobs. Pick something with a geometric pattern for a little extra camouflage. Accidents do happen, and a forgiving print can come in handy.
4. Throw a throw over it.
Just like area rugs protect your floors, a small blanket can serve as an extra line of defense between your pets and your pillows. In addition to making a home feel warm and inviting, a throw will catch any shedding and shield the furniture from the pointier parts of your fluffiest family members. Then, it’s much easier to throw in the washing machine than an armchair.
