Name: Oksana, her husband and their children Zion and Chloe
Location: Sioux Falls, South Dakota
The basics: 9 years, owned — 1,200 square feet

Oksana’s home is a mix of white and wood which keeps the space warm and inviting and maximizes the natural light, a big plus during South Dakota winters. Her philosophy is to take designing her space one corner at a time, and you can tell by the smartly collected moments sprinkled throughout the house.

Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: A sweet little oasis, a place of deep rest, a cozy corner and in our case, a little nest. My home is a story of who I am and a place I am completely myself. As a mom and a wife all I want for my family is to feel my deepest embrace. My walls help me accomplish that. A place for two children to mature and grow. My home consists of my sweet husband of almost 10 years, little man Zion who is almost 4 and baby girl Chloe who is almost 2. To me, my home is a breath of fresh air. My style is simple with a hint of bohemian and vintage. You will find thrifted pieces all over my home as I enjoy giving things a second life. That feeling of relief as you pull into the driveway after a long day, that place where you can sort through your thoughts, that moment in your day where you can finally exhale, that’s what I want my home to be.

What is your favorite room and why? My favorite room in our home is the nursery. We tend to spend a lot of time there. At the moment this room is very bittersweet to me as we get ready to re-style it. Chloe has now grown out of her crib and Zion is ready to part with his toddler bed and upgrade to his lifelong dream bunk bed. We plan to accomplish this over the next few cold month as outdoor life comes to a stand still. (If you’re not familiar with South Dakota, this place is frozen over for about 6 months out of the year!)

If you could magically change something about your home, what would it be? Add more giant windows and add a skylight window. I am a total sucker for sunlight!

What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? A hanging rattan chair — it’s a little treat for the babes and totally sets the feel in our living room.

We took down an old cabinet in the kitchen and replaced it with shelves. It made our kitchen feel so much bigger and allowed so much more natural light to sneak in.

Which fictional character would be most at home in your place? Sometimes I feel like Cinderella as my two babies make quite a challenge for me to keep things tidy! Luckily, they are slowly starting to understand the concept of “chores”.

Oksana’s words of wisdom: Be yourself and surround yourself with sentimental pieces that bring you joy. Focus on creating or re-creating one corner at a time to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

Thanks, Oksana!
