This Amazon Alarm Clock Doubles as a Sleep Tracker
Many want to track their sleep to get a better understanding of how they rest, but not all want to have wearables on while in bed. Enter: the latest gadget from Amazon, the Halo Rise.
The bedside device is an alarm clock, a lamp, and a sleep tracker. Its most notable feature is that it doesn’t need a camera or mic to monitor its user’s sleep quality. Instead, it tracks breathing and movement patterns using sensors and machine learning, the algorithm of which, is based on “the clinical gold standard for sleep analysis called… overnight polysomnography.”
Melissa Cha, Vice President of Amazon Smart Home and Health, explained: “Halo Rise is designed to work intelligently in the background and give you an entirely new and effortless way to manage your sleep and achieve sleep-life harmony.”
In addition, the Halo Rise can distinguish between two people sharing a bed, so it will only track the person snoozing next to it, then provide a sleep summary (and tips on how to improve your slumber) the next morning.
As for its other functions, the device will gradually glow brighter as if to mimic the sunrise, giving you a more pleasant and natural waking experience. Its alarm, meanwhile, can monitor your sleep stages and, instead of disturbing you during deep sleep, it can adjust to wake you up at the ideal time.
Of course, the Halo Rise can sync with Alexa, enabling you to choose your favorite song as your alarm. And if you follow a sleep routine, the device can turn off the TV, the lights, and your gadgets when you’re hopping into bed.
“Sleep is the central pillar of good health, and the benefits of consistent, sufficient sleep are well-documented, touching on nearly every aspect of our mental and physical well-being,” said Dr. Carolyn D’Ambrosio, Associate Professor at Yale School of Medicine.
She added: “Yet research shows that one in three adults don’t get enough sleep. With its comprehensive approach, Halo Rise is leading the future of sleep technology.”
Amazon’s Halo Rise costs $139.99 and starts shipping later this year.
