Nate Berkus Shares the Exact Spot You Should Hang Art in Your Bedroom
I don’t have a headboard in my bedroom — and it was an intentional choice. Throughout the years, I’ve owned a four-poster bed, a tufted velvet frame, and a headboard that I attached to the wall. But for the current iteration of my room I wanted a very minimalist aesthetic. However, sometimes I wonder if I’m veering a little too sparse.
Luckily, Nate Berkus has just the tip I need to pull my bedroom together and create a little visual intrigue without committing to a new bed. It all comes down to clever artwork placement.
If you’re ever feeling conflicted about where to hang artwork in a bedroom, consider Berksus’ approach. “Artwork above the bed instantly draws the eye and anchors the room,” he shared in a recent Instagram caption.
And it doesn’t necessarily need to be a traditional piece of art. “Whether a tapestry or a painting, it creates a focal point that adds character and feels special,” Berkus continues. In the carousel post, Berkus shared several iterations of his tip. There’s a tapestry, boldly colored art, a large piece, a small piece, and a painting that blends seamlessly with the room’s color scheme. Basically, you can do as you wish, as long as you have a gorgeous piece of art above your bed.
Why Hanging Art Above Your Bed Is So Cool
While a gallery wall above a bed has its positives, there’s something so bold about a single piece of artwork. It’s a commitment to and appreciation of a gorgeous piece of art, and, somehow, less is more in this instance. The commenters also agreed with Berkus.
“Now that’s a statement piece,” one commenter said. Another person added, “The exact inspiration I needed this morning! Thanks for sharing.”
If you need a real-life example, look at the bedroom in artist Laetitia Rouget’s Portugal home. In the home’s “blue room,” as Rouget calls it, there’s a large, bold painting above the bed. Even though there are many colors vying for your attention in the room, the entire space is anchored by the painting.
So whether you have a headboard or not, the next time you’re considering hanging artwork, follow Berkus’ tip and try it out above the bed. It’ll immediately be a statement piece.
