This Ingenious Amazon Find Instantly Creates More Countertop Space in My Bathroom — and I Can’t Live Without It
Over the past seven years, I’ve dealt with my fair share of small bathroom sinks that offer little counter space, but when I moved into my current apartment last June, I was faced with the smallest and narrowest sink yet. I’ve long lamented that I can’t put more than a single bottle on my sink ledge, because there’s simply no room for anything but the hand soap. I’ve had to put skincare products on top of my closed toilet seat while getting ready (which is not ideal for a variety of reasons). If I put on make-up, I have to use a small vanity mirror on my overcrowded meant-for-work desk. Roughly one month ago, though, that all changed. While I was mindlessly scrolling on TikTok, I came across a video demo-ing this Folding Bathroom Sink Cover. I’ve never clicked “add to cart” on an Amazon product so quickly in my life — keep reading to find out why.
I opted for the smaller size (19.75″ x 15″) in black, but there is also a larger option (24″ x 15.5″). The mat is made out of silicone, which was one of the main reasons I got it. It’s non-slip and easy to wipe off if I spill make-up on it. Sometimes, I even use it to clean my make-up brushes — another ingenious use that the seller touts.
Using it couldn’t be more simple: I simply unfold the mat, place it over my sink, and voilà — no additional assembly required. When I first took it out of the box, I was a little hesitant because it looked larger than I envisioned it from the online pictures. However, the mat just needs a little bit of counter space to rest on, and it was a perfect fit. If you have anything beyond a small bowl sink, definitely opt for the bigger size. While it can’t hold every single product I own, it does support the skincare and make-up products I use in my daily routine. According to the product description, it can hold up to 7 pounds, and I would say that this fact seems accurate. I piled as much as I could onto this handy cover, and it held up with no problem. The best part? I can still turn on the faucet if I need to rinse my hands — the cover doesn’t obstruct it.
Another big selling point of this mat is that it’s heat-resistant up to 480 degrees. I don’t usually style my hair with a brush dryer, but for the purposes of this review, I placed a hot dryer on the silicone mat. The silicone didn’t melt, so that test also passed with flying colors.
And when I’m finished with the cover, I fold the two flaps in toward the center and hang it on my over-the-door towel rack, so it isn’t cluttering my already tiny bathroom. This one tool has made it possible for me to get ready in my own bathroom again, so if you’ve got a teeny bathroom sink too, you’ll want this in your life too.
