When it comes to candles, you can call me a bit of a connoisseur. As a shopping writer who has written almost exclusively in the home and beauty categories since the beginning of her career, I’ve tested many scents over the years. From luxe fragrance house releases to standouts from indie brands, candles make up a big part of my coverage. More than that, they’re a home staple that I personally adore. So when it comes to testing out new candle companies, you can bet I’m quick to jump on it and just as quick to tell you about them when I think they’re worth it. My latest discovery? Beauty Pie — and it might just be my favorite candle discovery of 2021.

Launched in 2016, Beauty Pie is a luxury beauty buyer’s club where you can get your hands on high-end makeup, skincare, and haircare formulas (sourced from the same beauty labs as many of your favorite luxe brands) without the luxe retail markups. Essentially, Beauty Pie cuts out the middleman, getting the best products directly in your hands without any of the extra fluff. Instead of paying those inflated prices, customers can subscribe to a membership ($15/month with a monthly shopping allowance of $150 or $59/annually for a yearly shopping allowance of $3600 with no monthly cap) to take advantage of the steep discounts. Best of all, you don’t need to be a member to shop the site.

Suffice to say, Beauty Pie isn’t the first place that I’d expect to find candles. However, given their relationships with the world’s top beauty labs, I was intrigued. Now, I’ll be honest, I didn’t know what to expect when I first received these candles, but needless to say, I was really impressed. The first thing that struck me was their gorgeous packaging. From box to jar, these candles will elicit “oohs” and “ahhs” at first sight. But the real kicker for me was, naturally, the aromas. As soon as I opened the box they came in, I was hit with a strong but not overbearing waft of fragrance that had me frantically opening each jar to get a proper whiff. Each candle took me on a journey with a wide array of scents that left me already planning when and where I would use them.

Beauty Pie candles retail for $60 but can be marked down as low as $19 with a membership. And when you learn that their candles are developed in Grasse, France — the birthplace of perfumery — it’s clear what a great deal this is. While they have a bunch of scents to choose from, I went ahead and rounded up some of my favorite picks below to give you a sneak peek into what you can expect from the brand.

Each summer, I embark on a desperate search for the ultimate "summer in a jar" candle without much luck. Well, dear reader, I've finally found it: the Casa Coco candle. This warm and citrusy scent is reminiscent of a beach vacation spent under an orange tree with a bottle of coconut-scented sunscreen in one hand and a pina colada in the other. That's all thanks to notes of blood orange, lemon, coconut, vanilla, and tonka bean.

One of the brand's best-sellers (and my personal favorite) is Bahia de Miel. Warm and sultry, this seductive scent features notes of pressed basil, balsam fir, guaiac wood, and honey topped with a vanilla musk. If you get one candle on this list, make it this one.

There's something so relaxing about the smell of a laundry-scented candle, and Beauty Pie's Clean House candle might just be my favorite one yet. Filling the room with a truly clean scent, this candle features notes of lavender, freesia, and magnolia flowers bundled in fresh cotton and a hint of musk.

For me, Bitter Orange is the perfect transitional fall candle. Its citrusy top notes of lemon, grapefruit, and orange feel like an August afternoon while its base of blackcurrant, clove, nutmeg, and chilli brings to mind the upcoming change of season. This doesn't hit you with the traditional "pumpkin-spice bomb" that so many fall candles resort to.

If you're looking to try multiple scents or simply like to keep small votives around, the Candle Bar II Collection is a great choice. Best for those who prefer warm, woody, and sultry scents, this collection comes with a petite trio of Bahia De Miel, Sweet Tobacco, Cedarwood & Vanilla, and Leather, Violet Leaves & Labdanum.
