Good bones and a quirky art collection gave Marichelle's dining room some character, but she felt the room was a little cold.

Marichelle runs an eclectic lifestyle shop, Meus, in Maplewood, NJ—recently named one of Apartment Therapy’s Coolest Suburbs in America—so, yeah, her home is stylish. But Marichelle is also a mom of three, which means she’s concerned with much more than aesthetics: Everything in her home is chic and sturdy, as ready for neighborhood happy hours as after-school art projects.

That goes double for the dining room. From homework to family dinner, the sunny space is where the family spends much of their together time. Even though the room was well-decorated—with natural touches and a quirky art collection—Marichelle felt the white walls were a little cold for such a love-filled space.

Watch: Marichelle’s Pink Paint Makeover

Marichelle originally told us loves color but wanted to stay neutral. Fortunately, there is a color that does double duty, and we knew right away that it was for her. This color is pink, and for Marichelle we chose Rose Water S170-2 by BEHR®. It’s a versatile shade that sets the tone for an invigorating study hall, but then transitions to a sophisticated setting for a grownups-only dinner.

Marichelle says the warmth of BEHR's Rose Water S170-2 feels "like a big hug."

Paint is the quickest way to transform a space, and using BEHR’s ULTRA® Interior line makes it a super satisfying weekend DIY. It combines paint, primer, and protectant into one all-star product that will stand up to anything life throws at it (figuratively or—when it comes to little ones—literally).

The trim is painted in Ultra Pure White PPU18-06, a clean, bright white that helps pull together some of Marichelle’s existing pieces (like her dining set and rug) while establishing continuity through the rest of the house.

Marichelle’s new dining room is proof that a subtle change can make a big difference. Going from all-white to a soft color adds a surprising amount of warmth and turns the room into a much happier place. Marichelle says Rose Water feels like a big hug; we couldn’t agree more.
