Between the sustainability factor and the potential health benefits, the case for buying organic sheets is strong. Of course, the case for not buying organic sheets (read: they’re too expensive) can feel just as compelling. Well, think again! You can score luxurious organic sheets on a budget, although doing so does require some pretty savvy shopping skills.

Unlike for food, the FDA doesn’t officially regulate labeling on textiles, so technically, any company can describe its bedding as “organic.” However, the internationally recognized certification Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS for short) not only certifies textiles as organic, it also ensures that manufacturers are using fair trade labor and sustainable manufacturing practices. You can also look for the Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX certification, which indicates that the finished product has been found completely safe from harmful chemicals, and the OEKO-TEX Made In Green label, which has the same requirements as the Standard 100 but also confirms that the textile was produced in an environmentally friendly workplace. All that being said, lacking a certification doesn’t always mean sheets aren’t organic; rather, it just means you’ll have to decide for yourself whether you trust the company’s claims.

Admittedly, it’s all kind of overwhelming. So, to make things super easy, we’ve rounded up 10 sets of organic sheets that we love, all for under — and often well under — $100. Dreamy, no?

Pottery Barn

Crisp, cool, and breathable, percale sheets are ideal for hot sleepers. And because this 100 percent organic set is made of washed cotton, your new sheets will feel soft and lived in right from day one — no need to wash them a few times to soften ‘em up first. The sheets are also GOTS-certified organic and Fair Trade Certified, so you have multiple reasons to feel great about buying them.

Quince is a direct-to-consumer brand that offers luxury-quality products at prices that seem almost too good to be true — and this gorgeous percale sheet set certainly meets that description. Soft and breathable, the sheets are made from 100 percent organic, extra-long-staple cotton with a 400 thread count, and they are free of harmful chemicals and toxins. Plus, Quince offers free shipping and free returns for the first 365 (!!!) days, so you won’t have to worry about experiencing buyer’s remorse in a few months.

A stylish geometric print sets this 100 percent organic cotton percale sheet set apart from the other picks on this list. The cool, breathable sheets are GOTS-certified organic and made with only non-harmful, OEKO-TEX-approved dyes and finishes. So, if you love printed sheets but have allergies or sensitive skin that tends to get irritated, you might have much better luck with these.

Just like the set above, this classic percale sheet set is made of 100 percent GOTS-certified organic cotton with OEKO-TEX-approved dyes and finishes. Rather than a print, though, this set comes in gorgeously soft, sophisticated colors like dusty purple and sage, and it's finished with stylish stitching at the edges.

This organic cotton percale sheet set is affordable even for non-organic cotton sheets, so if price is a top concern, these might be the ones for you. While the set is not technically certified organic, it does have the OEKO-TEX Made In Green certification. The fact that Target gives these sheets the “100 percent organic cotton” claim adds credibility, too.

Pottery Barn

Perfect for cooler sleepers, sateen sheets are woven more tightly than percale ones, which gives them their lustrous sheen and silky-smooth feel. This sumptuous set from Pottery Barn is both OEKO-TEX and GOTS certified, so you can sleep easy knowing your new sheets were held to the highest possible standards throughout the production process.

This luxurious 100 percent organic cotton sateen sheet set is GOTS certified and has a 400 thread count, one of the higher thread counts on this list. Contrary to popular belief, you can't draw a straight line between higher thread count and higher quality, but when you're comparing thread counts for sateen sheets within the sweet spot of 300 to 600, a higher number will generally mean more softness.

Another silky set of GOTS-certified organic sateen sheets, these beauties are also hypoallergenic, unbleached, and dyed with all-natural dyes, so the set is a particularly great choice if you have allergies or sensitive skin. And even if you’re still not totally sure which type of sheets you like, this pick is still a smart buy; Whisper Organics offers a full money-back guarantee within 90 days of your purchase.

Bed Bath & Beyond

The contrasting satin border on the pillowcases and flat sheet makes this silky sateen sheet set feel like it came straight out of a luxury hotel — all sateen sheets tend to have that fancy feel, but these take things to the next level. That said, while the description does affirm that the sheets are made of 100 percent organic cotton, it doesn’t mention any specific certifications. For that reason, these organic cotton sheets are also worth checking out, but be sure to act quickly — with a clearance price of $41.99, they probably won’t be around for long.

There are several good reasons to consider purchasing these organic bamboo sheets rather than cotton ones. Compared with cotton, bamboo is easier to produce sustainably, since it requires less water and is much easier to grow without pesticides. Bamboo sheets are also supercooling and breathable, and by nature they resist wrinkles and odors. While this best-selling set does meet OEKO-TEX standards, it doesn’t technically have a GOTS certification. Still, it’s safe to assume that at the very least, the sheets are an exceptionally natural and eco-friendly option.
