How would you feel about letting millions of Instagram followers completely redesign your space, from top to bottom? One of our readers—a very brave one—let us do just that. Earlier this year, Carrie moved from a small 1-bedroom apartment near NYC to a mountain home in The Catskills. We then asked our Instagram followers to choose furniture, decor, plants, and accessories from The Home Depot. The polls have closed, the furniture’s been delivered, and the afters are here!

While the stakes were high, everything turned out great in the end—and we found some new favorites along the way. Out of everything we ended up using to design Carrie’s new home (see the full transformations of her bedroom, living room, and dining room), here are seven standout stars that really made the project come together.

1. Josie Live Edge Coffee Table

Carrie initially thought her new living room didn’t need a coffee table at all, but this one ended up being her favorite piece in what became a thoroughly modern space with lots of organic touches. The table’s live edge and natural grain brought the surrounding woods into her space, while the hairpin legs are a nod to the mid-century style she loves.

2. Modern Tufted Sofa in Beige

When we told readers that Carrie described her style as “comfortable, quirky, and colorful,” readers pounced on the possibilities. The room started swirling with retro Southwestern patterns and colors which Carrie liked, but she reminded us she didn’t want the room to be too busy. That’s when we suggested anchoring the room with a neutral-colored sofa with a modern profile. The result is a room where every piece brings some style to the table while maintaining an overall sense of harmony.

3. Durango Area Rug

Carrie was 100 percent sure she wanted a neutral area rug for the living room before this project started, but our Instagram fam had other plans in mind. This colorful rug with a Southwestern feel became a surprise hit in the space by bringing in some bold graphics and new colors. And yes, she loves it!

4. Brass Gold 3-Globe Table Lamp

We had a lot of lighting from The Home Depot to choose from for Carrie’s bedroom, but this 3-globe table lamp won out with our followers for its simple profile, Mid-Century flair, and satin brass finish. It became a great final touch for a fun space and matches the rest of the lighting throughout Carrie’s place.

5. Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines Handloom Wallpaper

Carrie’s bedroom came with a challenge: relatively low, seven-foot ceilings. But, accenting the far wall with this vertically-oriented wallpaper and keeping all the furniture in the room at a low profile opened up the space a lot! Best of all, it was easy to install with its pre-pasted backing.

6. Vintage Mod Dining/Accent Chair

Carrie was hoping her dining room would turn into a space that was just as comfortable for working from home as it was for entertaining, and these chairs made it happen. They have plush padding, low-profile armrests, and come in six different color combinations.

7. “Jet Pack VIII” Framed Wall Art by Chariklia Zarris

The Home Depot has a surprisingly big selection of already-framed wall art to choose from, and this piece ended up taking center stage in Carrie’s dining room. It’s simple, a little bit retro, and gave the space a bright pop of pink to complement the dark wood furniture and bright white chairs.
