Community Gardens Are Special Spaces — Here’s How You Can Grow More Good in Yours
Our gardens and outdoor spaces feel like home as much as our rooms inside do: they’re tranquil, nurturing spots where we connect with nature and each other. If you’re lucky enough to have a community garden — with family, neighbors and friends working alongside one another — then you know how special green spaces can be. Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day helps those connections flourish, because community is more important now than ever.
With a wide range of garden-inspired scents like Lemon Verbena, Tomato Vine, Basil, Fresh Cut Grass, and Daisy, Mrs. Meyers has always been rooted in the garden. Lots of Compassion embodies those roots. Since the initiative’s debut in 2023, Lots of Compassion has transformed more than 110,000 square feet of garden space — positively impacting more than 45,000 community members nationwide. With 30 garden grants to date, Mrs. Meyer’s teams up with these organizations to turn vacant lots into vibrant green spaces where communities gather, learn, grow, and thrive together.

Like a well-tended plant, Lots of Compassion continues to grow. In addition to this year’s ten $20,000 grants, Mrs. Meyer’s is also partnering with Interior and Plant Stylist — and Apartment Therapy favorite — Hilton Carter on a documentary series exploring how Lots of Compassion gardens across the country are bringing people together through the power of plants and community. Now in its second episode, Hilton chatted with Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust on how they are transforming overlooked spaces into thriving community gardens rooted in care and connection.
How You Can Get Involved
You can have an impact, too! All the products from Mrs. Meyer’s Compassion Flower line now through July 31 raise money for Lots of Compassion — and smell great doing it, with bright notes of sheer violet, yellow pansy, cedarwood, and lemon. Every time you buy a Mrs. Meyer’s Compassion Flower product on MrsMeyers.com and at Walmart now through July 31, 2026, $1 helps fund community garden projects nationwide. It’s all part of Mrs. Meyer’s commitment to contribute up to $1 million through 2027.
If you know of a vacant lot that’s just begging to become a thriving community space, don’t be shy! Communities and organizations can apply for Lots of Compassion grants from April 2 – June 15, 2026.
