beige and black diamond pattern rug with beige sectional couch and light wood paneling on portion of wall

Eduardo and his husband, Allan, have owned this two-bedroom home for eight months: Having saved for a decade, my husband, Allan, an HR psychologist, and I, a marketing professional, finally fulfilled our dream of buying our first apartment. With both of our remote jobs, we invested a lot in decorating and renovating our home, as we spend so much time together here. Over our 10-year journey as a couple, we’ve built many stories, having lived in Brazil and Argentina, but it’s here in Spain that we truly feel at home and where we hope to grow our family — complete with children and pets. We share a love for travel and enjoy cooking vegetarian meals, and every weekend our home becomes a gathering place for friends, filled with countless memories and laughter.

Our home is a reflection of who we are — curious and lovely souls who savor life’s small moments, sharing them with our cherished ones. We embrace diversity and sustainability, evident in our vibrant, harmonious space that effortlessly blends various styles. It exudes both tranquility and inspiration, a welcoming haven designed for hosting loved ones and crafting stories together.

Describe your home’s style in five words or fewer: Blending rustic and Scandinavian charm.

What is your favorite room and why? My favorite space is our open living area integrated with the kitchen — it feels like a countryside haven, spacious and perfect for crafting genuine connections with our family and friends. It’s a place where we bask in the good energy of plants, wholesome food, and sunlight, as we create heartfelt stories together.

What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? The latest addition to our home is a stunning vintage cow portrait, a true work of art that captures our hearts. As vegetarians, it’s the perfect reflection of our values and it now proudly hangs in our living room, adding a charming retro touch to a cozy corner.

Any advice for creating a home you love? Our advice is understanding the unique personality of each person who will inhabit that space. It’s about identifying their interests, the emotions they seek to experience daily, and their favorite hobbies, whether it’s travel, cooking, hosting friends, or relaxation. On a practical note, consider what functional elements are required in the space, such as a dedicated workspace or ample sunlight for plants.

Then, delve into their visual preferences — their favorite colors, furniture styles, and design references. With all this insight, you can craft spaces and cozy corners that not only cater to their physical needs and desires, but also incorporate the elements necessary to evoke the emotions they wish to nurture within that space. Ultimately, it’s about creating a home that resonates with the heart and soul of its inhabitants. Put your creativity to work and start sketching out various options and choose the one that makes your heart beat faster!

Thanks, Eduardo!
