Describe your space:
Our apartment has come together as a collection of our favorite things from various moves and travels. My husband is from Chicago, I'm from Miami, and we met and lived in San Francisco. Recently, we moved to New York right before the pandemic. Because of the pandemic, our vision for the space was to create a home that allowed us both to work and live comfortably. This is the smallest, coolest space because of its high ceilings, the oversized windows, and the vast amount of light. We love that there are elements throughout the apartment that tell our story.
Did you DIY anything in your space? And, if so, what's your favorite DIY?
All but two pieces of art in the apartment are DIYs. On our walls we have my husband’s photography, who shoots with experimental films and a handful of my large scale knots. And sitting over our sectional is a diptych we painted together during the early months of the pandemic. These two paintings are our favorites because they combine our skills and aesthetics; he is an art director and I'm a creative director.
How do you make your small space work for you and feel bigger than it really is?
For small spaces, wall mounted shelving is a great way to add surface area without taking up additional floor space. Our shelves carry decorative accessories from our travels, cameras, film, keys, plants, and function as our bar. The best storage and most flexible furniture we have is our daybed that converts into a king bed. With the extra floor space, we accommodated a work from home setup in our guest bedroom. Other aspects of the apartment that makes it feel bigger are the high ceilings and oversized windows. The split layout also helps divide the overall apartment and flow of spaces.
How does your home reflect you?
We believe our home is a reflection of us as individuals, as a couple, and as creative professionals.
