Dyson’s New Lamp Has a Setting For Every Mood, Promises to Last 60 Years

Dyson has launched the Lightcycle Morph, a lamp that-in typical Dyson fashion—isn’t just any ordinary lamp. Similar to its predecessor the Lightcycle, introduced last year, it automatically adjusts its settings to give off the ideal lighting based on your surroundings, activity, and even your age.

This level of personalization, or what Jake Dyson described as “a lighting system that supports your body clock,” is possible through the smart lamp’s Daylight Tracking algorithm.

“When you’re near the light, this tells it where you are geographically and it gives you the precise wavelength of light that is expected where you are,” said Dyson. “If you’re in London, the wavelength of light will be different from Brighton or Bristol or Slough. It’s that precise.”

The Morph has three axes, allowing it to-as the name implies-morph into several types of lamps. You can swivel its head so that the light bounces off the walls for indirect lighting. Point it downwards if you’re reading, and point it upwards if you want to highlight a piece of art. There’s also an ambient light feature which makes it mimic a candlelight giving off a warm, orange glow.

As with last year’s model, the Morph factors in the user’s age. So if you’re a 65-year-old, expect the lamp to give four times more illumination than it would a 20-year-old. There’s a wide range of preset modes too—such as for studying and for sleeping-on the smartphone app, as well as manual controls for color temperature and dimming.

The Morph is available as a desk model ($650) and as a floor version ($850). A bit pricey, but Dyson claims it can last up to 60 years due to its copper rod cooling system. Maybe you can get it from them on a 60-year installment?
