Your Old VHS Tapes Could Be Worth Up To $15K
Once upon a time, way before streaming and Blu-ray and DVDs, the only way to watch movies at home was with VHS tapes. Nowadays, it’s hard to find a VHS in pristine condition of the most popular films. That’s why these epic tales can bring equally epic returns on eBay.
Vintage VHS tapes in like-new condition of classics can fetch thousands of dollars. So, if you happen to have a VHS in excellent condition hiding away in your closet, you could be in for a major payday. It’s time for your own happily ever after by cashing in on these:
1. Sleeping Beauty, $15,000
The most valuable VHS tape on eBay is “Sleeping Beauty.” This one in particular garnered a super high price tag for two reasons: it’s a rare and limited edition tape and in excellent condition. Even Sleeping Beauty herself might wake up for a $15,000 check.
2. Beauty and the Beast, $11,000
Close behind in value is this VHS of “Beauty and the Beast”, which originally came out in 1992 . This particular tape is Black Diamond Edition, in excellent condition, and has a like-new clam shell case, all of which boosts its value.
3. The Little Mermaid, $10,000
From under the sea, this fanciful tale turns into a full bank account. This particular “Little Mermaid” VHS is in very good condition.
4. Fantasia, 2,500
“Fantasia” debuted in 1940 with fantastical singing, dancing, and special effects, and this mint 1991 VHS tape was worth $2,500. Over all that time, it somehow remained untouched and in brand new condition.
5. The Fox and the Hound, $2,500
“The Fox and the Hound” proved its worth with this pricey purchase—and we think the Black Diamond Edition certainly helped. The American musical buddy drama debuted in 1981 and was loosely based on the 1967 novel by Daniel P. Mannix.
6. Jurassic Park, $1,000
The first “Jurassic Park” film came out in 1994, and the franchise (and this tape’s value) is still going strong. This VHS tape sold for $1,000 in its original box, all of which is listed as in very good condition.
7. E.T., $1,000
Another iconic movie by Spielberg, this “E.T.” VHS was phoned to a new home for $1,000. The 1982 copy was listed as “like new” and described as opened but in excellent condition.
8. The Wizard of Oz, $630
This VHS tape of “The Wizard of Oz” released in 1939 was sent to a buyer in exchange for $630. The description states that the product was in good condition, cover and all.
