Before & After: This Fireplace Feature is Now Unrecognizable
I’m sure this fireplace makeover is going to be great, but in the meantime, I’m in love with that little sidecar of a fireplace on the left there. It’s so cute! Beyond that adorableness, it’s easy to see why this fireplace got an update. I think this style of stone is beautiful, but it can be hard to fit into many types of decor. Let’s see what it looks like now…

But first, here’s how Evija Roberts of From Evija With Love described her issues with the original fireplace:
The fireplace was low and made from old manx stone, which didn’t go with our living room decor. We wanted to modernize our living room and the fireplace looked dated and dark for our room.
I will attempt to put aside my great sadness that the baby fireplace is gone so I can report impartially on this admittedly striking transformation. The tile is so nice and bright, the new height adds drama, and the chrome adds reflection as well as a sort of futuristic flair to the ancient element of fire.
Evija shared the nitty-gritty of the project, confirming my strict “Never Attempt Tiling” policy:
As we did most of it ourselves it took us around 2 months (as we did things over the weekends or evenings). It cost us around 200£ (I received tiles free of charge). Tiling is harder than it looks! Lots of setbacks, wrong pattern, uneven wall, crying, shouting, cutting myself, but it was all worth it in the end!
Take your time and measure, measure, measure!!!
I really appreciate when our readers share what they really went through to get a project done. Surely not every renovation involves crying, but I bet a ton of them do.
The new hearth is easily cleanable (mine is made of bricks, and the mortar grooves are tricky to clean thoroughly), and the combination of silver and gold metals adds flexibility when it comes to decorating the rest of the room. The more I look at it, the more impressed I am that Evija was able to complete this project for about $283. Judging by her reaction, it was worth every penny and tear:
It looks perfect for the room, I really wanted the fireplace to be centered but since the makeover it actually looks great!
Thank you, Evija!
