An Uplifting Makeover for the Holidays
Apartment Therapy just wrapped up a makeover of a non-profit café called First Slice in Chicago, giving it its first facelift since opening in 2009. We are so happy that that we were able to give a little design boost to such a hardworking organization – they run the café to help support their outreach programs which feed 600 homeless and hungry Chicagoans each week.
We only had about two weeks to plan and pull off this project, which meant writing a lot of quick emails and making a bunch of fast decisions. Home Depot and Tempaper hopped on board immediately and moved mountains to get materials and supplies to us in time. We can’t thank them enough.

And, one of best parts of the whole experience? How the always amazing Apartment Therapy community came out in force to help DIY the new decor. We put out the word and readers filled our volunteer slots up immediately. It was completely by chance that our band of merry workers included some very experienced professionals, including an electrician, house painter, and some fashion grads with about ten years of sewing experience. Thank you to all the volunteers who showed up on such short notice to pitch in and transform First Slice. You are the bee’s knees!!!!
