You Can Buy a Stunning Cherry Blossom Tree for Your Backyard at Home Depot for Under $40
It is finally spring! Springtime means we can enjoy the beauty of nature, now that those cold and dreary days of winter are behind us. Is there anything more refreshing than looking at flowers blooming after spending weeks on end surrounded by dull gray skies? Of course not!
If you’re a fan of cherry blossoms, you’re in luck! You don’t need to drive all the way to Washington D.C. to enjoy the National Cherry Blossom Festival (though it is something incredible to see). You can actually plant a cherry blossom tree right in your backyard, thanks to Home Depot. The best part is it costs less than $40!
Home Depot sells Kwanzan cherry blossom trees for $38.99 in their Online Orchards section. These trees (also known as Prunus ‘Kanzan’ or Sekiyama) grow between 25 to 40 feet high with a 25-foot spread. The Kwanzan tree has a lifespan between 15 to 25 years and is one of the easiest trees to grow, according to Home Depot. These trees are native to China, Japan, and Korea and were named after a mountain in Japan. The trees were introduced in the U.S. in the early 1900s and made famous thanks to the Cherry Blossom Festival that is held in Washington, D.C. In the fall, this tree has a second “bloom” as the leaves turn a beautiful bright red shade.
The product description on Home Depot’s website reads:
Kwanzan has consistently remained the most popular flowering cherry tree in the world for a multitude of reasons, although none are so important as the sheer beauty of a Kwanzan tree. The showy, bright pink flowers grow in huge orb-shaped clusters which appear to be floating around the tree in the springtime. These world-renowned flowers at their peak will leave a vivid impression lasting until next spring. A lesser known fact is that the leaves turn to become beautiful shades of red and orange in autumn, making the Kwanzan tree much more than just a floral springtime beauty. Not to mention, Kwanzan is 1 of the easiest flowering trees to grow. If you’re looking for an astounding show of beauty year after year, look no further than the Kwanzan tree.
The best time to plant this tree is between spring to fall. You can expect this tree to reach a maturity of 600 inches in height (50 feet) and 240 inches in width (20 feet). It is shipped as a bare root and it is recommended to put at least 120 inches between plantings if you purchase more than one tree. If you’re hoping to attract some wildlife with this tree, you can expect to see bees, bluebirds, butterflies, cardinals, hummingbirds, pollinators, robins, and sparrows.
The Kwanzan cherry blossom tree at Home Depot retails for $38.99 and you can order it online.
