Name: Anastasia Antoinette and Jamon Johnson
Location: Columbia Heights — Washington, DC
Size: 825 square feet
Years lived in: 4 years, rented

It's not every day that you're in the market for a new apartment and stumble upon an architectural masterpiece — which also happens to align perfectly with your profession — but that's exactly what happened to Anastasia and Jamon when they were looking for their first home together. They've been renting the loft space for four years, and have truly created a home that celebrates their passions and professions.

Anastasia is a musician and songwriter, who sometimes doesn't have to venture far for a show; they open their home to SoFar shows, a community that puts the atmosphere and intimacy back into performance by setting up gigs in everyday spaces. Jamon is a home decor designer, and the loft serves as an incredibly convenient backdrop for all of his homewares; he also designs scarves and bandanas, for which Anastasia is a handy (and stunning) model.

Behind the walls of this ordinary brick-front home, architectural and decorative details abound. The building has a strong industrial language, which Anastasia and Jamon have balanced with a variety of original photography, drawings, and family heirlooms to add warmth and character. Located in one of DC's most historically vibrant neighborhoods, this space is the definition of multipurpose: host to underground music shows, a textile showroom, a general gathering space, and of course, home.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

Our Style: Lived in minimalism

Inspiration: Nature, life

Favorite Element: The natural light. In the loft space where we sleep, there's lots of light through nine window panes totaling about 16' x 4' on the north side of our home, and it provides a nice energy as the sun rises. There's also skylights on the opposite side of the space. Between those two sources, we very rarely turn on the lights in the daytime. Oddly enough, it's also cool at night because you can see the moon and moonlight through the skylight.

Biggest Challenge: No "privacy" if we have guests stay over because our home is just one big room.

What Friends Say: "This is the coolest place in DC."

Proudest DIY: One fall we went to Rock Creek Park and collected a bunch of fallen leaves. We came home with two trash bags filled with different color leaves and created a seasonal art piece of leaves on the wall in an ombre effect from green to yellow to orange to brown to red. We kept it up for two or three months.

Biggest Indulgence: "Filling the space with my voice" -Anastasia.
"Staging the space with my Small Wooden Box creations." -Jamon

Dream Sources: GoodWood, Community Forklift, and alleys
