I Tried a LifeStraw Filter Pitcher, and It Changed How I Drink Water (and How Much of It I Drink)
I am notoriously bad at keeping myself hydrated — especially in the midst of a hot, humid New York summer. I like my water very cold, but space is precious in my tiny fridge. I’ve tried a few different water dispensers and/or filters over the years, but they were either too big or too ugly to go from fridge to table, or they made the water taste funny. However, having recently entered my quarter-life crisis, I moved to a slightly bigger Brooklyn apartment that was the perfect opportunity to upgrade my water. Enter: the LifeStraw Home glass water filter pitcher.
A “Forever” Water Filter Pitcher
LifeStraw first piqued my interest with their beautiful color options. What can I say? I wanted a pitcher that would look as nice on the dinner table as it did in the fridge. The sleek, easy-to-maintain design features hand-blown glass with a silicone base. I chose Wisteria, a beautiful light purple that adds a subtle pop of color and complements my decor. It can go in the fridge, or, if you prefer room-temp water, it looks great on the counter too.
Performance & Convenience
Of course, beauty isn’t everything: My LifeStraw Home glass pitcher also had a job to do, and I can confirm its performance exceeds expectations. When I was shopping around, I quickly realized that LifeStraw is the only water filtration system that removes microplastics and bacteria as well as lead, PFAS or “forever chemicals,” and over 30 other contaminants. And I was pleasantly surprised to find that it noticeably improved the taste of my water.
Another reason I love the glass pitcher: its slim size is a huge benefit for a New Yorker like myself. Kitchen space was one of the sacrifices I made in this apartment — in-building laundry and south-facing windows beat counter space any day in my book — and this pitcher takes up no more space in my fridge than the average carton of almond milk. Even better, its 7-cup capacity means it pulls its weight at the dinner table: I haven’t ever needed to get up mid-conversation to refill it.
Sustainability and Responsibility
The LifeStraw Home glass pitcher also met my criteria for anything I purchase these days: It’s durable, sustainable, and responsibly made. Moving can be so wasteful — every August it seems the streets of NYC fill up with furniture and household items (often barely used). So this time, I made sure to pack consciously and fill my apartment with well-planned purchases that would last me longer than just my lease.
LifeStraw supports that effort, as a B Corp and Climate Neutral Certified brand committed to social and environmental responsibility. They’re also committed to ensuring that for every LifeStraw product purchased, a school child will receive safe water for a year. Hydration with a conscience — what could feel better than that?
I can also rest assured knowing I won’t need to replace my pitcher any time soon. The membrane microfilter promises 264 gallons (approximately one year’s worth of filtration) and the activated carbon + ion exchange filter 40 gallons (about two months). And if you’re forgetful like me, LifeStraw even offers a filter subscription plan.
At just under $65, I think this pitcher is well worth it due to its size, durability, and convenience. I wish I had opted to invest in the LifeStraw Home glass water filter pitcher years ago: It would have spared me the waste of all those that came before it.
