On March 24, Jennifer Garner uploaded a video showing her followers how to make the breakfast cookies from the New York-based Sarabeth restaurant, and her most avid fans noticed something was different — Garner was filming in a brand-new kitchen. The actress is currently filming a new movie called “The Adam Project” in Vancouver, Canada, so she has set up shop in an adopted kitchen in her Vancouver rental, which features an awesome layered cabinet design above the range.

The range is set into its own alcove along the back wall of the kitchen, where it’s flanked by countertops galore. But rather than leaving the space above the stove and alcove countertops bare, this alcove was designed with built-in cabinets that sit just underneath another set of cabinets outside the alcove. It’s hard to explain, but when you see it, you’ll say, “genius!”

It appears as though the range hood has been camouflaged with the same woodgrain as the cabinets on either side of it, creating a seamless look. And the marbled backsplash fills in the entire wall space of the alcove. It kind of looks like a mini kitchen within a bigger kitchen and definitely uses the space effectively for storage.

In Garner’s own home, she, too, has employed a stacked cabinet design with smaller cabinets atop her regular uppers. If you have the height, adding more storage in this way seems like a no-brainer.

Of course, one would need a good amount of space to work this kind of layered cabinetry into a kitchen design. But if a range alcove is doable, even equipping it with basic shelving on either side of the range can help keep clutter off the countertops.
