Our Editor’s Lazy Self-Care Day is Big on Books, Wine, and Snacks
Level up your next chill day at home with our guide to having your best low-key home sesh ever.
Sometimes, self-care can sound a little too much like work. (If you’ve ever struggled to get the perfect coat of polish using your non-dominant hand, then you know what we mean.) On those days, self-care is about doing less of everything. And here at Apartment Therapy, we’re honoring National Lazy Day (officially recognized on August 10 but celebrated whenever we feel like it) by embracing the idea of doing less and resting more.
La-Z-Boy® knows all about that. With a long-running reputation for producing some of the most comfortable furniture in the biz, they take downtime seriously. Their collection of high-quality, high-style designs are there for all of your self-care routines, from face masks to afternoon naps. Sigh.
“Being lazy makes me feel like I’m hitting pause on the busyness of life and choosing to take care of myself. To me, taking a day off to ‘be lazy’ means that I am in need of a break from all of the things and have to sit back, unplug from the world, and recharge. (Fellow introverts get it.)”
Stephanie Nguyen
When Apartment Therapy Cleaning & Organizing Editor Stephanie Nguyen feels her battery running low, she hits pause and plans a self-care day to help her unplug and unwind. “I wake up without setting an alarm and stay in my PJs all day long,” she says. “I have a book in my hand and my dog in my lap.” We’re already in.
Stephanie’s dreamy day starts with a comfy spot to post up, and the La-Z-Boy® Talladega Power Wall Recliner is just the place for her self-care sesh. The plush padded arms and supportive foam back are great for a reading marathon. With independent back and footrest controls, you can adjust it to a wide range of positions. And if your e-reader battery gets low? There’s a USB charger built in.
“I love having a lazy day because it allows me to destress. Yes, I am disconnecting from the world, but I am also reconnecting to my inner peace. I can just lounge, watch shows, eat snacks — all things I am a BIG fan of.”

Once she’s all settled in with her TBR stack, Stephanie grabs a blanket (for snuggling in the chilly A/C) and a side table set with her favorite snacks and a glass of wine. Add a scented candle with a relaxing aroma — Stephanie loves white gardenia — and she’s ready for a do-not-disturb reading marathon.
